It is not public prayers which Jesus commanded, but ostentatious prayers. He was not opposed to people praying in appropriate public places, but conspicuous places. It was not the place of the prayer so much as the purpose of their prayer that Jesus spoke against, namely, "that they may be seen by men" ( Matt: 6:5)

Paul urged public prayers "for men everywhere" ( 1 Tim 2:8 ).

If people are praying for you, that is a good thing. Jesus does not have anything against good things. Is is better to do good or bad?

Jesus gave further instructions on prayer. At Matthew 6:5, 6, we read: “When you pray, you must not be as the hypocrites; because they like to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the broad ways to be visible to men. . . . You, however, when you pray, go into your private room and, after shutting your door, pray to your Father who is in secret; then your Father who looks on in secret will repay you.” These words teach us that prayer should not be offered in a showy, ostentatious way so as to impress someone. Do you pour out your heart to Jehovah privately, as the Bible urges?—Psalm 62:8.

Jesus gave this caution: “In your prayers do not babble as the pagans do, for they think that by using many words they will make themselves heard.” (Matthew 6:7, JB) Clearly, Jesus did not approve of memorizing prayers—much less of reading them from some book. His words also rule out the use of the rosary.

When you pray, you do it in secret. But what you pray ABOUT is permitted to be a public matter. Jesus asked for people to pray about specific situations, including to pray for laborers to help get people saved (Matthew 9:38). Jesus never forbid asking for prayer.

So I will obey Jesus, as you requested, and right now go and ask that laborers be sent your way to bring you into His kingdom.

In this scripture, Jesus is teaching his followers to not pray aloud just to be seen of others.
Praying in front of others and for others is very scriptural. Just not to be a hypocrite that's only doing it for self glory.
If Christians are praying for your salvation, hopefully you can see the love and concern for your soul that's behind it.

Because that passage when taken in context is an admonition against hypocritical prayer, not against letting people know that you are praying for them.

Matthew 6:5 "And whenever you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray standing in the synagogues, and on the streetcorners, so that they may be seen by men. Assuredly I say to you, that they receive their reward in full. 6 But you, whenever you pray, enter into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you openly.

Jesus prayed in front of other people and there are many passages like this one where the Apostle Paul told people he was praying for them.

2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 Therefore we also pray always concerning you that our God may count you worthy of this calling, and may fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the work of faith with power, 12 in order that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

It says nothing about keeping what you are praying about secret. It says to pray to "...your Father who is in the secret place...".

Oh, and to obey Jesus, then we should be more aggressive as Jesus told us in Matthew 28:18-20

'And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you...'

Be careful of what you ask us to do :-)

People only asked for others to pray for your salvation. They are praying in the privacy of their own home.

These are obviously two different things. We are also commanded to pray for one another's burdens. How are we to do that without knowing them? Sorry. You lose.
