No it is just a myth if there were such a thing we would not have to worry about such things as common curtisy or kindness or just plain human decency. All societies at one point or another wishes that there were some easy way to wipe away there sinful behavior. The best way is to treat your felllow man the way you want to be treated.

I've read accounts of sin-eaters from the 18th century. It was nto widespread, and practiced by small, provincial sect.
Being a sin-eater was no fun. Not much better than being a begger.

Using a sin eater to ease the passing of someones death is a provincial concept that was followed by some in medieval Europe. It was antithetical to church doctrine though, and not widely practiced.

I saw one on Night Gallery, or Twilight Zone once. Rod Serling was great! I think the idea has been around for a long time. But it's really a superstition.

ive had alot of experiance with the different and strange and accult and cristan, and ive neaver seen any reference to one. good movie though
