Hate to say that Mom is wrong but if you have an upset stomach you do not want anything rich and creamy. Try some sprite, peppermint candy, ice cold water to sip or Mylanta or Milk of Magnesia. Also, if you have any Alka Seltzer that my sooth you. But ice cream...will make you feel gassier and bloated.

as long as youre not lactose intolerant milk will calm and upset stomach. especially an acidy stomach or heart burn.
I assume the coldness of ice cream can help a mild sour stomach.
I grew up on a dairy farm, and my gramma still drinks milk instead of taking a heartburn medicine. I do the same. Or if i ate something thats making me sick, i chase it with a glass of milk, to calm my stomach back down.
Now, i dont know how much of that is trained into my head and my body reacts accordingly, and how much of it is scientifically or medically true.

RE:
Does ice cream help settle an upset stomach?
My mother says it does, but I thought the dairy would upset your stomach more.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.
The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

I agree with you. The sugar as well as milk are hard on an upset stomach. A simple home remedy that often works is a tsp or two of cider vinegar in a glass of water, sipped slowly.

No, ice cream is heavy cream and sugar. Not something that you want to put into an upset tummy. Something bland if you have to eat something, otherwise just take some pepto.

It's not recommended for a typical upset stomach. Try Pepto or suck on a peppermint. Or, if you have sour stomach, try a soda cracker.

It has just helped me. I think I have noravirus and have been in agony since yesterday, fever, the works. I had some ice cream on a full tummy and instantly felt the cooling effect. My tummy is no longer spasming. I wouldn't normally do that as I avoid giving my kids dairy when having a tummy bug. Out of desperation for some relief I tried ice cream and feel better. How temporary it will be I can't answer
