It has a great poem/writing for soldiers.
It says: While some wage the inevitable war of words, others must stand in harms way and taste the bitter dust of the hour.
Theirs is the steeling up of the last straw.
Theirs is the shouldering of the burden unclaimed; the thing that must be done.
Theirs is to marshal up fortitude and become the sum of will.
Theirs is to set aside hopeful tomorrows and take on the terrors of today.
Theirs is to draw the hostile fire and stay the terrible course.
Theirs is to stand vigil, that mankind's darker nature not devour the light.
Theirs is the unrelenting day and the unforgiving night.
Theirs is the moment of glory and the lifetime of ghosts.
Theirs is the life lost, should the ultimate price be paid.
Theirs is the pride in the promise.
These trials are theirs and theirs alone. For they are SOLDIERS.

First off a really good party! Secondly, since all of his personnel affects will be gone through and all contra-ban taken away, nothing. Really the best thing to give a GI is mail lots of it! Anything and everything just a letter can make a bad day good also, letting him know that he can call collect anytime is a nice gesture. When your in Basic your first phone call will only be about 3 min or so. As for phone cards they might take those away as contra-ban in case of theft. Also, don't send any big packages chances are he won't get it mainly because he would have to go to the Base Post Office to get it, and the chances of him or her getting time to do that is slim and none. Also, Bush IS NOT A GOOD PRESIDENT!!!! I gave up my career and retirement because I would not serve under his supposed leadership!

Good luck to your friend,it's a great branch to be in. I think the best thing to give someone going to boot camp is money or gift cards. During boot camp you don't get much pay and I'm sure that the money or gift visa card would be an excellent choice.

As an Air Force veteran of 6 years, I can tell you the best gift you can give is a sincere promise and commitment to keep in touch with him/her.

When my cousin joined the Air Force, my mother wrote to different people in his state such as the governor, the town mayor, senators, congresspeople, etc. and asked them to write letters of congratulations to him. Sometimes, such people will only respond to people in their own state, so she made sure to include HIS mailing info and lots of good stuff about him so they had a good reason to write to this proud guy who couldn't wait to join the Air Force...good luck to your friend. By the way...he loved the letters...and was very surprised and proud to receive them, which she read to him at his party.

Well the best thing you can do for them is...throw a big going away party and then give them a phone card and just write them all the time and fill the letters with words of wisdom.

I agree with Jean. Phone cards are the best for those who are going to be away from family. I grew up in an AF family.

A phone card would be a great gift, so that your friend can call home and not worry about cost.
