Politicians are defeating the people of this country (both republican and democrat) by dividing us through "value" issues. Instead of working together to make sure our gov't does the right thing, we are fighting each other. We are divided on everything.
Question 1: Will the American people wake up from this and begin to question our leaders and our media?
Question 2: What will the major consequences of this divide be in 10 years? Could it lead to civil war, secession of certain states from the union (if that's even possible), or a breakdown in intelligence that results in nuclear, biological, chemical or other terrorist attacks IN the US?

gcbtrading: you raise a great point! But my counter question would be, what if the voters don't do the right thing? For example, I'm sure half of the voters in this country would love to have prayer in school. So would the current administration. But, technically, it is unconstitutional ("Congress shall make no establishment of religion..."). Does the wedge go deeper?

1- We can only hope they will question the media for once. Americans have questioned their leaders since the time of Washington.
2- Our country has survived over 200 years with major value differences & it will survive another 200 yrs if we do not let terrorist country have the freedom to attack us. I believe the Republicans will be in office like in past a majorority of time & keep our military strong enough to protect us. No need for civil war since most Americans believe in the law even when we do not like the law.
I am amused that the people against the war on terrorism are the same ones who believe we will be destroyed. Do you not want your grandchildren to have a life? I am confused with their answers.

What you are speculating could destroy us is actually what makes us so successful. Checks and Balances. When our nation goes too far off course in a particular direction...the citizens correct the course at the voting booth. We're fine and will continue to be. There has been division since the beginning...todays problems seem so important because they are .....today.
***** in response to your addition.
Prayer in school is a long running issue...and ...because of the checks...it is not part of the cirriculum.
Personally...I think the direction is going too far in the direction away from prayer. I am not a religous man. But I believe one of the principles upon which our nation was founded was "freedom of religion" not "freedom from religion"
The idea was that the government can not impose a particular religion .... but it is neither the function of government to quash religion.
The proper solution, which we had for a time, is a free moment to your own thoughts...in deference to those who who might use the time to pray. Personally...I used the time to admire the young lady in the 3rd row.
So.... in my estimation...some correction is warranted.
I don't think government imposed religion is on the horizon.
I understand that you used Prayer in School as an example of a broader question about voters doing the wrong thing....mistakes are made...but corrections come in time.

1. No. I do not believe they will wake up without a really bad outside stress.
2. I do not think that agencies will divide, because money rules in America and most strange fusions are possible just because of money. And majority of people are manipulated successfully by them.
Despite that, I would like to believe that US will do less damage for the rest of the world in future and more good thing than now.

#1-People are questioning the changes that are evolving within our constitution. They are also getting fed up with our leaders and the corporate media. The best way to cause division is to cause confusion. It's working well. The blue bloods have alway's controlled the world and will till their demise. With what is happening and will happen in the great divide I expect to see riots, mass confusion, martial law, loss of constitutional rights and the New World Order totally in control of the world's masses.

The idea that we will "destroy" ourselves by taking a moral stand on a "value" issue like abortion, marraige or even on the other side with gun control or capital punishment is ridiculous.
It is incumbent upon us as Americans to make sure our values are represented in our Govt.... we are not a democracy in its truest form... we are a representative republic and expect our representatives/advocates to be our voice in the congress and senate. If you value a womans "right to privacy" in the case of abortion.... it is likely that you will vote for someone who shares that ideal with you. If believe that God has a place in how we decide what is and isnt acceptable as it relates to our laws... you will vote that direction........ and it has always been this way. Our Govt is strong enough to withstand divisions and differences of opininon.

It’s not difficult ! You vote for a president , that president in turn fails to work in that office to keep the nation safe , then people get killed because the president fails to act on murderers killing Christians all over the globe.. Hence America is a murderous thief killing people all over the middle east, while American people hide in their attitudes of so called, Christian folks .. America killed Foley also! For backing a president that ignores his responsibility will bring the U.S. terrible consequences.. Beware.. A voting country did it ! Are you just going to point the finger now !?
