I saw a report on the evening news about this issue, and I wondered what all of you would think about it. Why should we deny babies who are breastfed the right to nourishment when they need it, no matter where they are?

As for those who object, apparently many people do, according the CBS news report I saw tonight.

Some people in this world are very narrow minded. They are embarrassed by the act of breastfeeding. They need to grow up.

The feeding of the baby is not the issue. They are ways that you could feed the baby breast milk. You can put the milk in a bottle before you go anywhere. Breastfeeding in public is not excepted because not everyone sees it that innocently. They are dirty minded people out there. You can be putting yourselve in danger. I see the way some men look at the women who breastfeed and it is not very cute. Their mind is at the breast and not at how natural it is.

Most of us don't mind at all. gets kind of questionable when the kid can open Mom's shirt and get his own lunch. But if the little rug rat is old enough to swing by a boob it's going to be a problem for mum when she dumps the kid off at school with a breast-pumped lunch.

Personally, I think babies should be started on the weaning process as soon as they can bite, and to hell with the La Lache League.

Most people object to seeing members of the general public baring all for any reason. I frankly don't want to see someone taking off any part of their clothes in front of God and everybody, even for that reason. I don't think it's very respectful to the people who don't want to see it. Going to the bathroom is a natural experience too, but I don't think that's an excuse for doing it in public.

Mothers DO have the right to breastfeed WHERE they want, WHEN they want! I nursed both of my kids when they needed it, no matter where we were, and for the most part, people didn't even notice what I was doing. They just thought the baby was sleeping. I don't know any women that just "flop" their boob out; sometimes you might get a quick peek, but one the baby is eating you usually can't see much anyway. People really need to get over their sexual hang-ups about breasts and remember what they are really there for!!!

I think it's perfectly fine in public IF it's done discreetly with a blanket over the baby & mother. I would not like to come across a woman with her boob hanging out for all to see. We are not primates, we are supposed to be civilized. Supposed to be.

Of course they should! And they do have the right. However maybe a little discretion is in line, such as a small blankie to cover the breasts.

I think mothers should be able to breastfeed anytime in public

I don't have any problem with breatfeeding in public but I think people should still be have some modesty and be discreat about it. I mean, I just don't want to see a bunch of breasts popping out all over town.
