Generally, I agree with the above, and before I got my current dog I would have agreed 100%. However, my dog is afraid of anything bright neon yellow or neon orange (don't tell me they can't see colour, because I can assure you mine does, it's kinda weird). She will get really upset of she sees a pylon on the sidewalk, or construction signs. I've had her since she was 11 weeks old, one day she just didn't like it. And no, I didn't beat her with a pylon or bull dozer... I think she's the exception though.
My first reaction is that something traumatic happened - be it abuse, an accident, etc.
Exposure in small doses while s/he's comfortable and relaxed, etc. Leave something on the floor so that s/he can just come and sniff it and see that it doesn't move on it's own, etc.... generally work it through habituation, or keep it out of the kitchen while you cook...

If your dog was adopted by you, the family before you could of abused your lepoard dog with small objects or kitchen utensils.

It's possible the dog was hit by it's previous owner with small objects. I once had a dog who would cry and shake when someone held a lighter. They didn't even have to light it, just hold it out. There are some really sick creeps out there. Just don't hold out those objects when she is around. Be nice to her.

Chances are that she was abused before you got her. I have a Boston Terrier that is like that. He is afraid of the stove/oven. Anytime it is on, he stands there and shakes. I know he came from an abusive environment. He's been with me for 6 years, but has not gotten over it. Keep assuring her that it is okay. Give her a lot of love. :)

I'd say your dog has it's own scarey, history,Some shelters are'nt adiquit or equiped to handle alot of dogs and you have to be careful in obtaining any animal from a shelter, you get what you pay for,so to speak, It's not the dogs fault that someone was mean to it,try to be patient with the animal,it might come out of it on it's own, lots of t.l.c.

most likely your dog was beaten or threatened with those kind of utensils in his previous home. an idea to maybe help with his fear is to associate those utensils with treats of praise. leave them around accasionally with a treat on them to help your dog learn that those utensils will do no harm to him, in this new household. best of luck with your new dog.
