They work if you both want them to work. You find ways to meet each other. You go there he comes to you you both compromise. Long distance relationships are very hard. But work very well if you want them to. Go online they have cheap calling cards. Email email email. Join the same chat programs. Its all up to whether you want it or not.

Long distance relationships usually only work is there is a set time in the future when you know you'll be together, permanently, again. Otherwise, they are DESTINED to fail. Oh, and the only work if you already had a relationship in the first place!
If you know that you'll be getting back together in the same place in a year or two, then you have to make your relationship the priority. Make a phoning schedule and stick to it (get a plan with unlimited long distance). Send little texts through the say - "Buying milk and bread + thinking of you!" Skip the big nights out and save your money for to meet together on long weekends- maybe midway between where you both live. When you're together in your hometowns, include your partner in your normal life and normal friendships, so they don't feel compartmentalized.

It is almost impossible to make them work. Why? take your choice: distance, time constraints, travel problems, costs, separate life styles and careers, etc., etc. Trust issues are often a major problem is a long distance relationship as well. Can they work? I suppose, but I sure don't know how to keep it solid.

communication and honesty is the most important. also you must not be insecure or it will never work. long distance relationships do take work yes but they also put the relationship on a deeper level because you dont get caught up in the physical aspects of such...

They don't often work...it's natural for people to want to be with their partner, and often people who are apart stray because they are lonely and frustrated...
If one or the other of you cannot relocate in a reasonable amount of time, it's probably best not to put either of you through the stress of trying to make an LDR work...the odds are very much against you...

It can be done, ,but both need alot of trust and patience.
You have to meet from time to time to rekindle the love and sex life.
