Why aren't laws tougher for the idiotic scum that are caught drinking and driving? They kill a lot of people a year.

I think that its being looked at. I completely agree with you though. They should have stiffer penalty's and shouldn't be allowed to get top of the line lawyers. To many innocent people have there lives destroyed in one way or another by it.

How tough do you want them? The death penalty?

Most jurisdictions have lifetime driving bans for people caught fro drunk driving; it's illegal just about everywhere to refuse to give a breath sample. In addition, people face penalties for vehicular manslaughter, and any number of traffic offences.

If people haven't caught on that drinking and driving is both stupid and illegal before, they won't now.

You can make all the laws you want. But that won't stop people. If you want changes, these potential lawbreakers need to be affected on an emotional level. Get them to feel the pain of what those sorts of actions can cause. Then you won't even need the laws because they'll stop themselves.
