Design flaws Ford failed to anticipate, perhaps?
This is why I loved Cosworth's take on producing a car: anticipate every possible problem with the car, and fix them before the design ever sees the road...or a track.

well all my explorer has to do is sit in the driveway and drive down the road....it doesn't have a 'life'. my explorer has withstood 100K+ miles with me. the interior looks like absolute CRAP (and crap is not a strong enough word) but i do maintenance regularly and the actual engine is doing fine. you can't drive automobiles forever and not change fluids, rotate tires, etc. and don't use cheap oil and filters.
