I've not seen it (don't like South Park, to be honest), but people keep citing it in their answers. Could someone give me a quick precis of what happens in it? I'm guessing the church doesn't come off too well.

Here's a link to a script of the episode where a Mormon family moves in the neighborhood.

Preamble: I have been a member of the Mormon church for 29 years (since I was born). So I know what I'm talking about.

I saw that episode a few weeks ago and I loved it. They get almost every single fact exactly correct except one minor thing. They show Joseph Smith finding four gold tablets. The story really says that he found a set of gold plates bound together like a book with three rings on the side. It was divided up into four 'sections' but this was not a really important point. Everything else in the show is exactly as Joseph Smith described it (in the 'official' account that the church now uses).

I think the intended point of the segment was to illustrate that Joseph Smith wasn't always completely truthful, and that is most likely the case based on all the available evidence.

I love the little chorus "dum dum dum dum dum!"

Just because I was born into the Mormon church, doesn't automatically make me a gullible moron. Most Mormons are too scared to read anything even remotely critical of the church because they're afraid that Satan will get ahold of their soul or something.

Anyway, yeah, that was a great South Park episode.

No church comes off too well on South Park... I think the show is horrible. If anyone really wants to know about the Mormon Church, I wouldn't take anything on South Park as being too truthful.

South Park= greatest animated satire of our generation. Anyway, the show might be offensive to Mormons, as it mocks the entire foundation of their religion. (It mocks the so-called findings of one Joseph Smith, implying that there was absolutely no evidence of his claims of finding a new gospel). But it still has a good message near the end about not judging people based on their religions, no matter how moronic it might seem. That's basically the theme of the episode.

It surprises me that South Park is criticised by family groups so much. Is it maybe because South Park openly showed its support and tolerance of gay people in one episode? Or is it because the show speaks the truth about the hypocritical and destructive nature of many so-called Christians? I'll let you think that over for yourself.

A new kid moves to town from Utah named Gary. All the kids get mad at him because he's way too happy and eager oto answer the teacher's questions. They decide Stan should beat him up. Gary instead talks Stan into coming to his house for dinner. Stan gos and Garys family is Mormon and really overly nice and loving and stuff. The dad starts talking about Joseph Smith and the Mormon religion. Since the family gets along sop well, Stan thinks there's something to the religion. He gos home and tells his dad, Randy so Randy gos over to beat gary's dad up. But Gary's dad is so nice as is his wife so Randy just listens about Joseph Smith. Randy decides the family will be morman and invites garys family over. When they arrive, they finish the story of Joseph Smith. Stan realizes how stupid it is and tells them they're retarded. The next day, Gary tells stan to suck his balls. It's funny unless you're a morman. But if you're a morman, you're retarded.

That is one of the most perverted shows on air... But I did hear about that episode so did see a portion of it... as I have some of the anit Christian I hear about... They had the mormon issue pretty well pegged... They caught the emptiness of what they, mormons, claim their faith is... very well.

They also have some of the hypocracy of some "christian" churches roasted well also... fortunatly a Christian can still clean up his act... the emptyness of the mormon faith is emptyness. Not much you can do with emptyness. 0 is 0 and will always be 0

South Park was very respectful of the Mormon Cult.

It was in South Park and there were Mormons, I think. They made fun of them. Then a family said how much they loved Olive Garden, and then I fell asleep...

It's a skeptical satire of the facts surrounding the founding of the Mormon church.
