Why would anyone fall for this? Is it general ignorance?
Don't they realize that EVERY business is in business to make money, and that the two choices are pay a wage that brings workers to you or go out of business?
Labor is almost always the least expensive part of any product. if industry doubled or tripled wages, the amount of businesses that would fail would be, in reality none. and if a business DID fail because it could not afford legal workers, then that is not anyone's fault but the business owner's.
Why would the common buy into this?
Supply and demand have always weeded out unsuccessful business ventures
Can anyone prove that a viable business WOULD go under if they were not allowed to break the law?
If they can, prove it, that is, I will say
GOOD! I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO ALLOW YOU TO BREAK THE LAW SO YOU CAN STAY IN BUSINESS!
You are just like any other criminal enterprise!
FAIL, FAIL, FAIL!!!!!

I can give very good examples:
within a one hour drive of Pontiac Michigan, you can find many McDonalds. You will find that few really pay minimum wage, although SOME do, many also pay up to $9.50 per hr for cashiers and kitchen help!
Why is that?
Supply and demand and the fact that the owner would rather pay a bit more than go out of business.
Each store sells around $7,500 worth of food a day, it pays maybe 15% in food costs and other overhead costs (building, water, gas, electricity) another $500 (commercial properties are expensive, and the majority of THAT cost is mortgage).
EVEN at a high average of $10 per hour per person, this example still only pays $1800 per day in wages.
$1,125 (food and paper)+
$ 500 (other overhead)+
$1,800 (high end wages)
------------
$3,425> $7,500-
$3,425=
-----------
$4,075 per day earnings for the owner. If that isn't enough, and NEEDS illegals, Tough!

yes tx, I have owned and managed for others several businesses!
I owned a construction/remodeling company, and a computer business (custom built systems), I also ran 8 restaurants. In none of these ventures, was labor the most costly.
I will concede that it could be more or even the most costly in other areas.
I was only speaking from MY experience.
