Ouch. Lead us not, doesn't mean lead away. It means God is leading you somewhere and you are asking him not to lead to temptation. Didn't he tempt Abraham to kill his own son?

God allows temptations to make us grow stronger. There is no sin in having temptations, the problem is when we give into them. We are asking God for the help to avoid falling into or giving into temptations. We're asking God to protect us from Satan and the temptations he lays for us.

Well, temptation is seen as the alternative to deliverance from temptation. So by saying the Lord's prayer, we ask that God deliver us from the temptation and actively protect us from evil in his omnipotent benevolence. The evil of the devil would otherwise consume us in that sense if God does not intervene. So, besides the fact that praying to the devil is ridiculous for Christians, we don't pray to the devil when saying the Lord's prayer. You might think it's cruel that temptations are even allowed, but think of them as God's tests of our willpower and devotion to Him. The hero strikes again!

Of course temptation is the work of satan. God is omniscient and, as a result, knows the temptation that will befall us so we ask God to direct us away from the temptation that will come our way. satan plants traps, God protects us from them if we ask, believe, and follow God's direction.

1)wearenotalone20 spelled satan wrong. He/she spelled satin like the silky material in shirts and blankets.
2)We aren't praying for God not to lead us into temptation- there is a verse that says "Do not say, 'God is tempting me' for God does not tempt us." We are asking God to lead us away from temptation.
