Ten to fifteen thousand. They take power from the house unless you have a back up generator.

For food or people? How many floors? Or just to lift a stage? If it is just to get handicapped accessibility to a room now only approachable by steps and thus is limited to people who can walk - a diagonal lift down the side of the steps with a fold down platform will probably cost about $2000 with $500-1000 installation. If it has to be done as a vertical lift with reconstruction of portions of a wall and installation of guard walls and access doors then perhaps the same cost with $2000-3000 installation cost. If multiple floors, then much more. If only for food, much less - safety protection requirements much less.

You can get them for a couple grand new or used (there are different types) But if you are disabled you can get help with paying for that even if you can afford it through local and state organizations. If you get turned down one place don't let that discourage you because there is always other places that will help.
