It is a problem I think partly because of the hype - kids are told hey this is bad for you dont do it !!! So of course they try it and guess what it feels good and it wasnt so bad for them - they didnt get hurt, or die or do something extremely stupid.. .. The key is to be truthful.. could start by making the commercials more true to life.. For example the weed commercials.. they act like if you smoke it you are going to all of a sudden do idiot things like stick a fist in your month, get chased by a junkyard dog etc.. this is simply not true.. And as soon as a kid tries it and finds out that it isnt true they are going to think it is fine for them to do it and that all adults are liers..
better to tell the truth.. I tell my kids that while certain drugs may be offered to them the best thing is to not even try any because once you try you may want to try again or try something different and while they may make you feel ok at the time and may even be "somewhat entertaining" what they do is make you lose sight of who you are. they take away your goals, your caring about self and others, and in general your ability to enjoy life without an alternate substance.. also I give examples of costs and what money could better be spent on ( as in the cost of cigs etc)
Everything starts with the truth.. dont tell them that if you take this you will think you can fly ( not always true) or if you take this you will die (again not always true)
A kid isnt going to listen to - this is bad for your health - they feel invincible !!!
Stopping the drug plague begins with youth.. I think a good idea would be to take a field trip to some drug rehabs, where people have slipped into that place where they lost all touch with reality......

Very nice subject for research..but in my opinion I think the family is the most important defense aginst drugs and many social pbs too, and because many families are not intact the kids will grow and learn from schools and TV and streets and those kids will like to try every thing without know what is it and from here the pb begine...In the eastern communities like middle east and many eastern communities drugs is not a major pb for many reasons but mostly bcz of the strong family relationships and that the son or the girl stay under the responsibilty of his parents untill the 20's of age and also it is rare to find a child live with only one of his parents so the common thing is a complete family with strong relation between it is members and i think this is the most important thing that we can do to protect our future community

Sadly drug abuse is embedded into most cultures either legal or illegal. Most of our parents drank alcohol and took medication on a regular basics. We use drugs to look cool or a form of escape, they are addictive and habit forming! The answer never is at the bottom of the bottle!
To address this issue society must come together and be willing to change and provide real alternatives with long term goals. This is easier said than done!

It may sound simplistic, but I think the need for drugs is due to the fact that our society has a high proportion of persons with blood sugar imbalances - diabetes, pre-diabetes, etc.
From the reading I have done (I was hypoglycemic, now diabetic), the brain if it is low on blood sugar will do what it has to do to get blood sugar. If that means an addiction to a substance that makes the other organs give up sugar (like the liver) or substances that are pure sugar (alcohol), then it will give a person the cravings that "make" them ingest those substances.
I am trying to alert people to what blood sugar imbalances can do, cause, result in. Check out www.hufa.org, and thanks for the opportunity for me to spout off about blood sugar.

I don't think we are ever fully going to stop the movement of drugs. Drugs get shipped and produced in all parts of this world. I wish it was easy to say that my children would grow up without drugs ever being around but they've been around for so long, I think it's a never ending cycle that a lot of people wish could just end.

I think everyone should start a strike and put up flyers to protest against smoking and drugs. If we do this our world can be safe for kids and other people. For example on Full house they say how the mother died of a drunk driver. I am sure you wouldn't wan't that to happen to you? I know i wouldn't wan't that to happen to me! So let's save the WORLD!

Go on a killing spree, kinda like The Punnisher, hunting down all the drug dealers. That would at least put one hell of a dent into the problem.

I guess many people want escape from the world and drugs help them. People think that drugs is an escape from their problem and drug they feel is an easy way to escape. To stop this plaque we need to fix our problems.
