I have a nasty clog in my kitchen sink and it will not let me drain the water I had done dishes with today.I tried double rounds of Drano within the last 5 hours and still no results.I am about to call a plumber to check the problem but before I do,is there other home methods I can try before calling the plumber?

put a bucket under the sink and take off the elbow, it sounds like there is something lodged in the elbow, this will be nasty so you may want to pay the nieghbor boy five bucks to do it, if this doesn't work try using roto-rooter brand drano this will eat through just about anything but you pipes. Good luck

Do you have a garbage disposal in that sink? The procedure for clearing the clog will be different for sinks with and without garbage disposals.
Starting with the basics:
Remove as much water as you can from the sink. Seeing as you have put a caustic chemical in the water (Drano) you should be careful and wear gloves. Dispose of this water in the toilet, being very careful not to drip any onto carpets, or floors.
Once you have gotten as much water out of the sink as you can, remove everything from under the sink to give you as much room as you can to work.
If you have a garbage disposal, look for the outlet connection where the drain pipe connects. This is usually held in place with two screws. Turn the power off to the disposal (for safety). Put a bucket under the disposal and drain pipe. Loosen the screws ans pull the outlet tube loose. You should have some water dripping out. If you have none, the clog is in the disposal drain outlet. Remove the tube and take a screwdriver or other small object and push through the clog. Clean the pipe as well as you can and re-assemble the drain assembly.
With no garbage disposal, you just have to remove the trap. Using a pair of channel lock type pliers or a large adjustable wriench, loosen the pipe nut and pull the trap free. Water from the sink will pour out, so again be prepared with a bucket and gloves! Clean the clogs from the trap. Put the assembly back together and you should be ok.
If this sounds like something beyond your mechanical skills, call a plumber!

you can try the following, try using a plunger as the quickest way,but if you have a double sink you will have to plug up one side or the other, but you will have to be extra careful of back splash especially since you have drano in it. If you can do it you can put a bucket to catch the water, again be extra careful, and take apart the drain below especially at the P trap, or you can try a small plumbers snake availbale at any hardware store, if that fails, do not put any more chemicals down in and call a plumber

First bail out the sink.
The pipe makes an S under the sink. It is held on with ring nuts. put a rag over them and unscrew it. (make sure you have a bucket bacause the rest of the water will come out)
The clog is most likely in this S
Clean it out and put it back together.
Remember...don't clean it out in the kitchen sink!!! There is no drain!

pour a bunch of vinegar and baking soda together in the water. It may help. Also I had this with my bath tub and I used that new de clogger that has a pressurized end on it. I got it from Wal Mart. Seems ok. Also try a plunger.
Good luck

get a large deep pan and put it under the "S" under the sink. Use a pair of water pump pliers or a monkey wrench and take the "S" part out. Then take the "S" over to the garbage pail and using a straightened out clothes hanger and run it thru the pipe and push or pull it thru until clear. Reinstall the "S" and run more Drano thru to finich the job.

Yes, unscrew the pipes. I had a clog that I couldn't get rid of. Turned out to be a solid clog of what looked like lard. Nasty nasty stuff.

pour Cow Brand baking power down the drain, wait an hour then pour white vinegar down the drain, it will bubble ... when that is done pour boiling water down the drain ... if that does not work use a plumbers snake to clear it out

someone once told me to use baking soda and vinager. it has the same effect like in a science project volcano. it should make the fizz and what not. i think the point is to blow the clog out. i've never had a chance to try it though. try it and post if it works or not!! good luck.

Aren't many other ideas. Put up a piece of artwork. Put up a picture of a sunset, sunrise. I framed a post card picture of some scenery and put it about 6 inches off the floor - so my dog would have something to look at when she ate.
