I HAVE SUFFERED DEPRESSION MOST OF MY LIFE. PEOPLE THINK OF IT AS A DEEP DARK SECRET. WE WORRY MORE ABOUT WHAT PEOPLE THINK THAN WHAT WE FEEL INSIDE. TALKING TO SOMEONE IS GREAT. PRAYER HAS BEEN MY ANSWER. BUT FOR YOU IT MAY BE MEDICINE. WHATEVER WORKS FOR YOU DO IT TODAY. DO NOT TRY TO HANDLE THE SITUATION ON YOUR OWN. SEEK HELP AND DO NOT BE ASHAMED. BEEN THERE DONE IT.

I have been suffering from depression for 12 years and it's funny how people look at you crazy when you tell them. I think people worry to much with what society in general thinks about depression. Lord knows that if people had a choice they would not choose to be depressed.

I think what you stated was wonderful. I think the problem, other than what you mentioned, is some people are so ill they have pasted the point of being capable of getting to that next step. They are so far into the dark place of depression they won't see a way out. Like you said if they knew their was no stigma attached to depression maybe they could have gotten help before there depression made them blind to the fact they could get better.

Because ever time I try to get help the first thing they want to do it put me in a psy. word. They tell me it is to get my on meds. yeah right. I think people that suffer from mental disorders like me. Can't get help because the therapist is more concerned about how they feel than how you feel....................

Mental illness has always carried a stigma with it. I was in denial that anything could be wrong with my mind for years. It took "hitting bottom" for me to realize that it was time to do something. Fortunately The Lord saw fit to provide for me. He blessed me with a very good friend who took me in when I was destitute and she took care of me when no one else could or would. I am where you are at and I have been really into my Bible. I'm trying to get off some of the meds because I recently saw a commercial where they said my meds cause death. (seroquel) so, now I am also afraid of death.

From my experience-you don't know how sick you are until you start to get better and you think your friends are out of line with their suggestions.
