Tithing is a great place to start.
The guidlines that the church has recommended to us is 5% for the church and 5% for other worthy charities.
The definition of worthy is in the eye of the beholder.
For some it is the local food shelf.
You don't have to go to other parts of the world, there are many, many Americans that are living below the poverty level.
Job layoffs, downsizing, and family medical problems (to name a few) have affected many.
There are hospitals that have trust funds that can be donated to if you are interested. You can choose a general fund, or premature babies, or diabeties, or cancer, or you name it......
Whichever charity you choose, make sure to research first. How much goes to administrative cost and how much actually makes it to those in need?
While we are talking about giving money - remember we are to tithe our time and talent as well.
If you are willing to swing a hammer Habitat For Humanity is always in need (this was started by former Pres. Jimmy Carter).
The nice thing is - you don't need experience, they will teach you how to build and you will be on a crew with experienced people.
Good Will and the Salvation Army also needs donations of both time and money (and they will take donations of clothes and household items to sell in their stores).
ARC (Association for Retarted Citizens), and the Autism Society
are two more places that need funding. One person in every 144 will be diagnosed with Autism - there is much to be done in that area in both educating and practial solutions for everyday life.
Volunteering at different organizations will help you make your decision.
Remember - you can't out give God.
If you are giving because you want to (not just to see what you can get back) you will be blessed tenfold (at least!).
Good luck and God Bless!!!

Give it to people who have real problems. This could be something like World Vision or The Stephen Lewis Foundation (AIDS in Africa) if you are more of a global conscious person. I am part of a group that supports a WV child in Mauritania. I don't know where you are from, so I don't know what local charities are close to you, but I also think that on a local level, you can do a lot of good. No specific group, but I think programs that fund youth through art, music and other creative activities are good. After all, they scrap arts in schools to fund reading and writing, but without the arts, we won't have anything to read or write about. Also, little things, such as dropping a couple quarters in the poor guys hat can make a big difference.

As far as giving of money to a charity I give what I can afford. I make sure what ever I give is after I have ensured my bills and expenses are coverd.

Deciding on who to give my money to those that affect or have affected me in the past. My mother passed away to cancer and was also a diabetic. When ever I try to give to a charity other than red cross or United Way I look at these two organizations.

Scriptually a thithe is 10% of your gross income if after that you have excess beyond your immediate living expensives and appropiately saving for the future, you make an offering of part or all of you excess as you heart leads you.

Give to individuals in need and organizations that seek to improve the quality of life. This can be a church but does not have to be. they may feed the hungry or fight for human rights.

God honors a joyful giver so choose places to give that bring you joy.

First of all, thank you for being a caring person.

You can give to a group charity, such a the United Way, which distributes donations among many groups.

You could give to CARE or UNICEF for international charities.

Or research charities to find one that seems to resonate with you as far as what their mission is.

Look at your tax return to get your yearly total of what you make. If you can give 10% of that a year, that would help the world a lot. That's what I do. I give to the charities that I believe in. You have to ask yourself where you want to help the most.

Whatever you can afford is good, but if you need a guideline, try 1-5% of your income.

Find a charity that works for what you believe in, whatever that may be. Then research it, to make sure they will be handling your donations properly and not using it for their own purposes.

It's wonderful to see that you are interested in helping others.

Best wishes.

You should find a disease that killed someone you're related to - especially since that disease could be in your genes too.

If you are looking to feed anyone make donations to the food banks and clothes banks. You can also give the Red Cross a little blood, or get organ donor put on your license or ID.

because of the fact the perception that the richest a million% of the country has greater wealth than the poorest ninety% is a undesirable factor isn't the manufactured from jealousy, this is the manufactured from financial philosophy. i don't think of wealthy human beings ought to have the guy freedom to proceed to hoard earnings and strangle financial boost by ability of choking off disposable earnings to the buyer base. i don't choose united states of america devolving into Marxist revolution, it fairly is what is going to happen if conservatives have their way. ultimately the class divide between the a million% and the ninety 9% will strengthen so extensive that folk will have confidence violent revolution is the only thank you to rectify this inequality. while did you confirm to make a distinctive function out of selfishness and greed and think of of it as patriotism?
