If the Mexican people were here before Columbus does that make them native to these lands. If they inhabited much of what is now America does that give them the same rights?

While some people tend not to read the question or answer a question not asked some would be inclined to insult a persons intelligence with out taking into consideration the fact that the term "mexican" was used in reference to the Aztecs, Anasazi, Commanche and many more, at no time did I even imply that Columbus discovered Mexico I dont even know where that came from certainly not my question. I just want to know if they were here first does that give them the same rights as an American.

Wow, I'm almost insulted with all these answers, none before me seem to have gotten the essence of this question. The term "Native American" implies one being born on this soil. Hey does anyone out there know what the word Aborigine means? (according to Webster). Savage I totally got your guest ion! "Native to this land" That's what it means, so ........ does being born on this CONTINENT make you an American is a ligament question considering all the hype about birth place and birth right. America is not about a piece of land! Mexicans are "Red Skins" and any "Indian" who forgets that fact is an idiot and a f*** traitor. Columbus came here in pursuit of India. He and his crew landed here by accident and mistook the "Mexicans/Anasazi for "Indians". That's how they got the title "Indian". LOL OK...........So......does being born on this Continent make you an American? I'd like to know too! Native Mexicans are Indians too, get a clue!

Even within the portion of the continent that is now the United States there were any number of tribes that each considered themselves the true "people". The Iriquios did not inhabit lands the Apache inhabited, etc. Those from areas not here don't even have historic descent from this land much less a current claim. Those who were here became Americans.
Even Americans who leave the country and stay for two generations will find that their grandchildren are no longer Americans with a claim here.
So no. They have no claim.
Regardless, since we are the ones who foot the bills for education and other services, we are the ones who get to say who can come.

ER... uh... I don't think your knowledge of history is too good about this matter... where did you get your historical knowledge? from a South Park episode?
This is a very extensive subject so I suggest you read some books about the history of the Southwest and then re-post with something a bit more knowledgable... you are so far off the mark I can't even begin to answer your question other than to say, that Columbus did NOT discover Mexico... he,he,he... where did you EVER get THAT idea?
I'd love to debate this with you but your knowledge is limited to your dislike for the Mexican people and is not based on fact. And I won't debate any topic that is just based on racial or cultural hate.

Some Mexicans do have Native American blood in them and I am often confused for being Mexican when I'm Native. But Mexicans have a very different culture than Native Americans so it does make them different. I don't think they are considered Native unless they belong to a southwestern tribe such as the Navajo.

i like this question very much.
It asks people with actual knowlegde on the subject to answer against opinion.
Yes to some extent Mexicans are the legacy of colonization both by the Spanish and Americans/Europeans.
I would even argue that this isn't about immgration, but about migration.
People would like to believe that the Americas including what is now mexico was empty and people of European decent just happened to get lucky and only a few people interbred but mostly Mexicans are of European decent.
How riduclous is that.
Granted many are a mix of both Eurpean and Indigounous blood, what you have is the majorty of people that are of direct indiougnous ancestry from rual aread and whose history has been shaped by coloniztion of 100 of years.
Also depends on if you mean America...the strech of land from the top of canada to the tip of south america......
Same rights? Did Jews have a right to return to isreal?

Mexicans are primarily Spanish. There are some aboriginal tribes such as the Aztecs that WERE in North America before Columbus's time.

SAVAGE, you astound me! look up and read the words in your question. read along with me, slowly so you dont get confused o.k.?
there are multiple terms in your question, all have different meaning. still with me?
First word. MEXICANS = People from the country of MEXICO. still with me? we will go a little faster now.
Second phrase. AMERICAN ABORIGINES = Aboriginal people of AMERICA. got it? Stop squinting and concentrate!
Third phrase. (NATIVE AMERICAN) Self explanatory, you dont need me to figure that one out do you? I can, you know it, too.
And you start your details sentence with the word IF.
IF a frog had wings he wouldnt bump his butt when he jumped, now would he?
Remember, YOU asked!
You say, "if the Mexican people were here" . If, and were, are the operative terms here. Are you getting any of this free education? Perhaps you should enroll in summer school and try again at a later time to impress your friends with your "rapist" wit. Dont try to take one moment in time and build a case for all time, it doesnt work that way.
CLASS DISMISSED!
Have a nice weekend.

mexicans as you are thinking are a mix of aztec & conquistador blood. they lived from southern texas to california . these areas where heavily populated by indians(native americans).these two groups are not alike in culture . mexicans would have no idea what a hopi or zuni was saying and vice versa. this land was taken at gunpoint from the native peoples.

No.The only true Americans are in my learned opinion the various Indian tribes.I.E. Apache,Cherokee,Illiani,Ute,BlackfootComanchee ,as well as many others.Do some research. How about the Anasasi? they're ruins are thousands of years old!We as a country owe them much more in reparations than we owe any others.Africans,A little, though I dom't believe any who were slaves are still alive.Japanese?Yeah,we entered many during WWII that didn't deserve such treatment. The Mexicans came here.It is NOT they're native country.
