The Navy is the only branch that cuts womens hair in boot camp. They cut it to above the collar. If you go in with short neat hair, then you can skip this. Your recruiter should be able to help on this, of course if he is a man, he will be cluelss.
A bit of advice, keep it simple, you will not have time for any fancy hair dos.
So get it cut yourself (there is some security in this) and if you don't like, remember it will grow back.
Enjoy Great Lakes as best as you can, tell Mom and Dad not to worry. They will keep you busy and a phone call is not considered a necessity. If you don't attend church consider it, sometimes it is a way to get extra phone time. If you are not in shape, get in shape. Make sure you know how to swim.
Good Luck and Thank You!

Some do a little do not its because of version and also you imply Central-West Africans in which their ancestors often got here from. Considering nearly all African Americans are a mixture of more than a few Central-West African ethnicities with a tremendous percentage even having a non Central-West African admixture similar to European and North American there will likely be variations. But the 2 can seem equal. Somalians aren't Arabs nor are Ethiopians or Saharan & North-East African black populations, a few are Afro Arab that is pretty much arabanized (culturally) black Africans for hundreds of years like how Black Americans are Americans however nonetheless black.

It does not matter, if you cut it before you go, they will cut it more. Leave it how it is and do not worry about it. Believe me you have better things to worry about before you go. Make sure you have plenty of postage stamps, paper, envelopes and have your general orders memorized. Also when you get there just follow the line, no not talk unless someone in uniform talks to you. Bootcamp was the easiest time I had in the Navy, as that is all you really have to do is follow the line and be quiet. Do not worry about your hair though, there are no "hot" guys there and they do not cut the females bald, unless maybe if you show up with short hair.

O-K FOR ALL THOSE BEFORE ME....THE MILITARY DOESNT CUT YOUR HAIR WHEN YOU GET THERE UNLESS IT HAS TO BE. they provide you with alist of requirements to complete before going to boot camp. when you report for duty they will look you over and tell you what you need to get done. cut it short, leave a few bangs. during boot camp you will have a hat on and when you go outside you will always have to wear your cap. only indoors can you take it off when you are in full Navy dress.or waring your BDU's
go to your hair dresser and tell her that you need a military cut, but you also want it versatile enough to wear it in style out in public out of military dress.
