Does anyone have tips for going to sleep when you are looking foward to something? Tommorow I am going on vacation to Philadelphia for July 4th, and I probably will have a tough time getting to sleep because I am really excited. Do you have any tips to make getting to sleep easier? Thank you!

i always get excited, so i can sympathize.

what i usually do is busy myself with something else, such as listening to music or phoning someone to chat (NOT about the vacation) or reading around bedtime. then i lie in bed and listen to music and (this will sound like total philosophical bullsh*t but trust me) try and analyze the song i'm listening to. it really helps get my mind off the trip, and on to somehting else. of course, i'm sure music isn't the only thing you can do this with, so do what suits you.

also, get all your MAJOR packing done with early. then the day before your trip, just make sure you have everything you want (there will always be last-minute stuff). then...FORGET ABOUT the suitcases!!! relax! the vacation will be no fun if you're sleep-deprived. good luck, and hope you have a blast! =D

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!

1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.

2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.

The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.

After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net

Ohhh..and Good Luck!

Well I can only offer you what I know. Which isn't too much.. Umm.. I'm trying to think of ways my mom used to help me get to sleep. Here is what I know will help: - Don’t watch TV or even so much as look at a computer screen atleast 30 minutes before you lie down. The light from both a television as well as a computer monitor mimic the same intensity of light as sunlight. This fools your body and brain into thinking it’s nowhere near time for sleep. - Drink milk. Milk has an amino acid in it called Tryptophan that increase the levels of serotonin and/or melatonin in the brain which slow down brain activity. It’s science folks. - Meditate. No, don’t cross your legs and hum, but focus on relaxing…if that makes sense. Take deep, long breaths. Tense each muscle one at a time from head to toe. Focusing on doing this takes your mind off of other things and you’ll be in lala land in no time. - Cut the TV off... its hard to fall asleep when you see a rerun of your favorite show cut the radio off... some songs have the ability to get you hyped up. - Cut the light off as long as you are not afraid of the dark... that little bit of light can be very distracting. - Sometimes it helps to shower or bathe before bed... the clean feeling can make you feel fresh and relaxed. - Make sure loud pets are put to bed or located in another room they can be very annoying. - Try not to think about that date tomorrow. Thinking about things you are nervous about, anxious about, happy about, ect. can really keep you up more than it seems. - I know I said no radio but relaxing music can help block out sirens and busy streets. I hope this helps!! Yeah, the milk thing I had to look up about but I knew that was what my mom did for me :) Get some rest and have fun on that date of yours tomorrow!

Lie on your back. Focus on your breathing. Put one hand on your chest and one hand on your stomach...try to breathe so only your stomach is moving. Then, when you breathe in, count slowly to 2, and when you breathe out, count slowly to four. Count in your head, and do it until you're sleeping or until you can't stand it anymore. If you're not asleep, at least you'll be relaxed, and that will help you sleep eventually.

See something on the net like how much people are suffering for food, pain, injustice etc etc. Your exicement will vanish. Then plan something to do about it. Jot it down and go to sleep. Make sure next morning that you do what you had written down. Not only your eximent will vanish, you will rather become a more content and matured person.
Thanks.

watch tv before you go to bed. you will somewhat forget about your excitement and it will clear your mind.

For me, its similar but not really, see I always drink a lot of caffiene during the day (im somewhat addicted haha) and so im really hyper and its hard for me to sleep so i watch tv and it makes me tired.
