Give as much as is necessary to demonstrate to yourself and to God that God is master over your life and finances. More if you are lead!
On a side note, you should give to whoever/whatever will faithfully handle God's provision. In the Old Testament this was the temple priests, but nowadays it is to those who pastor you and your community to the glory of God; this is usually your local church but be open to God's guidance.
Every blessing!

Most devoted church patrons give ten percent...but you have to depend that on your income as well. If ten percent means that you or your husband are working over time every week, or are cutting into savings to pay the bills then you are really working to pay the church. God does not view you as less devoted simply because you don't donate a "required amount". If you have less one week, donate less if you have a really good week or something comes up where a donation of a little more is needed (like contributing to a church member on hard times) Then donate a little more...
And don't forget You don't always have to donate money to your church...you can donate time..And that can increase the churches funds by far more than your personal monetary donation (I'm speaking of fund raisers which take man hours to co-ordinate and run)
As a matter of fact make a deal with your husband..offer to cut back on the weeks he donates his efforts to a fund raising car wash or bingo night, or bake sale, or flea market.
I think you will find this a gratifying compromise for the both of you (especially the days he would rather buy his way out of any extra work and just donate)

Ive been reading what everyone else has been saying, but I'm sorry, 10% of someone's earnings is too much. I mean sure, if you're making over 100,000 a year and can afford to do so, that's great, but for the majority of people, that's too much. A couple bucks is just fine. Not to be rude or anything, but I see how some of the priests live....living in outlandish rectories sported with big screen tv's and dining out at expensive restaurants while the nuns have to live in near poverty and are not allowed any possessions. I'm sorry, but if the priests gave up their luxorious life styles, then maybe the church wouldnt always be in such need of money.

Tithes is 10% from your weekly pay before anything else is bought and before bills are paid. My preacher has stated that if you give that 10% to the church then the Lord will provide for you.
Also, the Lord understands that not all people can give 10% out of each check. Contribute what you can because the Lord understands.

At this time, we give between $40-80 a week. But we are moving towards and trying to make 10% a reality.
With our church, we do a lot in the community. The more we give, the more we can do to make God look good.
Churches cost money to run.

If you church is involved in charity work- feeding and housing the poor, giving medical care to people who can't afford doctors, etc. then give what you can. If your contributions only pay the salaries of the church employees, then I'd recommend zero. Ten percent of your income is what they want (that's the "Law" for Jews)but it depends on what you're getting out of your church experience. I like to know where my money is going. Some evangelical preachers get very rich and all that money weights them down when they try to fly to heaven.

Talk to your husband, and see if you can work something out. I generally say that you should give what you feel good about. There is no set amount. Just keep in mind that whatever you give is for the Lord's Work, and any amount helps out.

I give the 10% and a little extra for offering. I do this in Sunday School or when I write my tithing check. I also give the 10% from the gross not the net. Someone asked that question and a response was, do you love God net or gross.

try to give 10%
But it must be done cheerfully. If your husband is not up to speed it may be better to cut back and help him come along. That way he is also a cheerful giver. Does he see what the money is used for ? Is he involved with the ministries? Remember it is not just our money we should be giving.

I can't give you the specific verse in the Bible but it's 10%. If you have a concordance look up tithing and you will find the scripture that tells us how much we are to tithe. Tithing is based on God's word so you can't give "too much".

You are suppose to give 10% of your weekly earniings from your work. But its not wrong to give to much dear. You give what your heart tells you to give. You will ultimately get back double what you give in the end.
