Two words..........Peer pressure. Don't let it get to you. You should be very proud of your choice. With the world the way it is today with all of its poverty children, and STDs, that is the safest route. Sex is something that can definately wait, and I promise you, it will be worth the wait. Don't worry about what people say, you're doing something that not many people can say that they've done.....and I applaud you on that. I wish you well with decision, don't change your mind!!! Good luck!

I imagine they are just intolerant of your being different. I was a virgin until 23, and I found most people to be very understanding. I don't know what kind of ignorant people you're hanging around with, but I'd look into the possibility you need some new friends...
That being said - examine yourself for WHY you want to wait. If it's fear of pregnancy/disease - use condoms. If it's just 'cause the preacher in Church told you to - start thinking for yourself. If it's because you truly believe that sex without a deep emotional bond isn't worth the heartache, then good for you.

I just think that they're jealous because they can't get back what they lost. Don't let peer pressure make you do something you don't want to do. Wait for that special person. It will be better for the both of you. Whether you're male or female, at least you don't have to worry about std's or anything else. And, before you do make love to the one you're with, get tested just to be safe. You don't know if the other person has been with someone or not even if they say they haven't. Be safe for yourself. The other person should understand that if they really love you.

I think it's great that you're waiting. People make fun of virgins mainly because of the media. In almost every movie now there's at least one sex scene, and a lot of the popular bands talk about it, and it's in all the magazines. People think it's cool to keep up with celebrities and famous people, and they make fun of you to try and tear you down so you'll give in and do it. But stay strong and wait til you're married to the person of your dreams until you lose virginity.

They make fun of you because they are ignorant and immature. Don't pay any attention to them. One day they may regret the choices they've made, but you know you won't. You're not alone, I'm also 22 and a virgin. I almost made the wrong choice with my last boyfriend, and I know if I had I would have regretted it in the future.

Hello,
I think it's great that you're waiting for that special someone. You are obviously a very intelligent, caring, and gentle person.
To answer your question... I think people make fun of your choice because they regret not waiting, they wish they could have a do-over for their life and they bring you down because they're bitter about not being able to "wipe the slate clean", so to speak.
Don't let them bring you down, you're doing the right thing!

Yes, some people do make fun of that, but if you feel like you are making the right choice I say more power to you. Both my husband and only slept with eachother and I wouldn't change that for the world. I'm glad we waited till we found eachother. Stick to your feelings and don't let others tell you what is right for you, only you can know that.

Don't worry about others. Statistically, you have a better chance at a great marriage if you wait. The other factors include graduating from college and pre-marital counseling. These are in your control. People make fun often because they made poor choices and misery loves company.
Wish you well.

I am 23 and I am still a virgin as well. I think people do that because they have nothing better to do. They also may wish that they could have waited as well. When I tell people that I am still a virgin they go yeah right tell me another one.

Those who make fun of you are likely doing so because they feel you are judging their choice in not remaining abstinent. You choose to be different, so some will feel you are condemning them instead of just realizing you are making a choice for yourself, and no one else.
People often have negative reactions to those who are different than they...or choose different paths than the majority...do what is right for you...
Sex is not overrated, it's fabulous with the right partner...but it's each individuals choice as to when and with whom they want to experience it...
