To answer the question: The Internet is not a religion because it doesn't worship anything. It might be a part of a religion, but not a religion in itself.

The internet is more like Ouija board. You never know you're really talking to, and what their agenda is. But you do have a good point. I know many people who worship 'The Book', and have no love for God or Man.
