Matthew 11:27-29 (NKJV)
All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. [28] Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. [29] Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
The 'rest' Jesus is talking about is working to please God. Many, many people believe that they need to have their Good Deeds out weigh their Bad Deeds...that they need to work, work, work.
NO, Jesus says, come to Him. Lay your imperfect life at his feet... Lay your sins on him. Lay all your faults on him...
Realize constantly that you and I fall short ....even though we love Jesus. Rest knowing that it is OKAY. Jesus paid the price for your sins...and mine.
Shall we continue to live in sin? No, God forbid... read Romans. On the other hand...we are unable to live the 10 commandments perfectly. We break them constantly.
So, rest in Jesus. He is our only comfort. Another thing to remember is that everything you experience in your life ...God allows. He allows trials, shipwrecks, persecution...the tough things in life. (Read Job) Everything...has been filtered through his hands BEFORE it hits you.
God wants His people close to him...totally relying on Him. In the Old Testament, God delivers his chosen people into the enemies hands...and then delivers them when they finally cry out to him.
Judges 6:7-8 (NKJV)
And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried out to the Lord because of the Midianites, [8] that the Lord sent a prophet to the children of Israel, who said to them, "Thus says the Lord God of Israel: 'I brought you up from Egypt and brought you out of the house of bondage;
We are so prone to wandering and doing things our own way!! Stay close to him during your time of struggle. He does hear your prayers.

Accept Him into your heart as Lord and savior, have a relationship with Him.. He won't take away all your problems because when you are in the deep, strength is gained. What He DOES do is alter your perception, and give you a level of peace that is not dependent on either hard or easy times.

Perhaps you hesitate to take the initiative -- to step out in faith, as if God never works in mundane ways. Perhaps you're desiring a better feeling or an easier life rather than desiring God? The more time you spend getting into a closer relationship with God, the more you will find rest.

You don't have to worry about all the minute details of the Jewish law (much more than the 10 commandments) just rest in the trust in Jesus to save your soul. The 'law' had become unbearable for the Jew.

You need to read more. Try reading "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren. I've started reading it and it's already helping me. It's a 40 day spiritual journal, It's very inlightening.

God helps those who help themselves. There is a joke that goes.
A man was caught in a terrible flood and ended up on his roof. He prayed for God to save him. A log hit his house and stayed for a while and then moved on. And he prayed God Save me. A row boat with a man in it went by and called to him Can I help you? And the man said no God will save me. A helicopter flew over and tried to get him off the roof but he waved them away.God will save me. And he drowned. He woke up to find himself facing God and he said Lord, I prayed and prayed, why didn't you save me? And the Lord said, I sent you a log, a rowboat and a helicopter, what else did you want me to do??
You need to help God help you, He sends many things that we don't recognize as help. Look around you.

Do you have faith. You must have faith that God will take away the burden. Also, when you are reminded of the burden, just remember that God will take care of it and worrying about it won't help.
