God made man first because the Bible clearly states that God made man out of his own image.

That is a cute joke on us females.
However, God has a role for man to take the lead in the family, and the wife is supposed to be the helper.
Of course, since things got botched up, allot of families do not follow their God assigned roles.
Unfortunately Adam *liked* Eve more than God, apparently a major weakness that man still has. And Eve wanted to be the boss, a weakness that many women have.

Why make either first as if they would never need a counterpart? It's one of those little things in the older books of the Bible that looks like it precedes the age of reason.
Most all life on this planet (not all, but most higher life forms) come in male and female and they depend on the other for procreation.
It's like the old Chicken and Egg question...
My guess is that God knew fully well He was creating man in two genders from the start... and it was those who recorded the event that got the issue confused.
