The World Meteorological Organization, an agency of the United Nations said Friday the hole in the ozone layer this year will probably be slightly smaller than the all-time largest of 2003. The WMO says this is in line with the gradual healing of the ozone layer's depletion.

At present, the hole over Antarctica is about 27 million square kilometres and the WMO expects it to increase to about 28 million which is below its 2003 peak at about 29 million square kilomentres. Based on recent patterns, Geir Braathen, an ozone specialist at the WMO expects the ozone holes to hover around this year's size for a few more years before beginning to shrink. Some scientists predict it will take about 50 years for the ozone hole to stop forming.

I had heard that recently, and It sounds reasonable since we banned freon, the #1 cause of the hole in the first place, years ago.

The scientists that have been studying and watching this hole in the ozone for many years now do have their theories that it will decrease in size. Like many things in science these are theories of those who have devoted thier lives to study it. There is nothing that says or gives 100% yes it will or no it won't. The true and only way to tell is just to wait and see.

It is not closeing it is breaking dow from to many chemicals in the air. Factories. hair sray in cans any sprays in cans, exhaust fumes. Any thing like this over the years has broken down the ozone layer which helps us have clean air and now we are getting hotter and the weather is changeing to because of the break up of the ozone.

Sadly not true, and by closing it would be the best thing in the world the ozone layer filters UV rays (ultraviolet [yes black lights make these]) which can cuase tanning, sunburns, and skin cancer. CFC Cloroflouroarbons cuased it in the middle 1990's and that is why if you look on spray can most say "Contains no cfc's."

It is good that the hole in the ozone is closing because it was opened by pollution and alot of it and its slowly repairing itself. Please ignore the other answer that was given to you by that other girl this answer is true!

the hole is starting to repair itself and yes it is good it blocks out a good majority of the ultraviolet radiation which can cause skin cancer in humans it will still be a long time before it can repair entirely it may never but it will be close

I hope I was of assistance to your problem

um, are you sure? i mean, that would be really great, but that might just be someone's dream. the ozone hole is only getting bigger, we can't repair the damage that has been done.

It's not good, the hole is like a filter, it's not closing, it just changes shape every few hundred years, it goes bigger and smaller and bigger and smaller. It's just what it does.
