Czech is the oficial language in the Czech Republic, or former Czechoslovakia, but as a matter of fact, there are many languages spoken in Prague depending on variety of tourists visiting the city...you name it. :)

Remember that Czechoslovakia no longer exists, and it is now called either Slovakia or the Czech Republic, and I believe that is where Prague resides. They speak Czech I believe, but it is a dialect and would be understood in Slovakia. I know, it is confusing, as I have friends who moved here before the two separated, and they either have taken sides or not.

just a note - in modern days there neither is nor was anything like Czechoslovak language, just like there is no Belgian language or Canadian language. Czech and Slovak are very similar languages, so people who speak one can understand the other easily, but make funny mistakes if try to speak the other. However, there are plenty of mixed families - these can be called Czechoslovaks, sure thing, but only these. As there are less Slovaks than Czechs, and as Slovaks generally have more National feelings, some Slovaks are particularly sensitive when somebody calls them Czechoslovaks:)

Czech. When the country was called Czechoslovakia, the people said they spoke Czechoslovakian. However, when the two halves separated, for obvious political reasons, the two mutually intelligible dialects of the same language split their name in half. Czechs speak Czech and Slovaks speak Slovak. A similar linguistic split for political reasons occured with Serbo-Croatian and Norwegian-Danish.
