I just had a root canal done today, it didn't hurt at all. And YES I'm a big freaking baby we it comes to the dentist, I would have rather jumped off a bridge than go into that dentist office today. I have worried for well over a week for NOTHING, all I feel now is pressure, not really pain, it just feels weird and tight, but that's normal from what I told. The root canal didn't hurt, just felt a little pressure, but NO pain at all, it took about 2 hours to complete. So go in there with NO worries, you will do just fine. Good Luck :)

They can hurt. If you have a big enough infection, the infection can lower the anesthesia's ability to put the nerve to sleep. Which means the dentist has to use a more painful injection which is right into the pulp.
If the root canal filling leaks into the bone below, this can hurt alot also after the procedure is done
These are all possible.

No, they don't hurt. They worst part is that they are very boring!! Going to the endodontist will help though; they do root canals all day everday. Good luck

No ! infact its less painful than tooth extraction. In root canal they use anesthesia & simply clear the sensitive & painful nerve ends in the gums. Nothing is taken out. Thats all.

Im a baby too......
Have had much dental work and was teriffied to have a root canal.
The worry was worse than the work.
However some people have discomfort after when its a molar, usually because their mouth was open so long.
Have some Tylenol to take right after, I get a headache after just because Im a baby and I get myself so stressed.

Everyone is diffrent with diffrent tolerances to discomfort. The good thing is that you are not experiencing pain at this time. Your Dentist will take good care of you. If you do feel anything, just let them know so they can do whatever is needed to keep you comfortable.

no.
The local anesthesia deadens the pain. And the dentist must remove all of the tooth's dentin and nerve pulp before he can fill the tooth. No nerve pulp no pain.
