White people and dreadlocks?

I think white people shouldn't have dreadlocks b/c it is meant for the black people. White people's hair doesn't look right in them.

Haha... Its so interesting to read others opinions. I am a white girl and I have very long CLEAN and healthy dreads. They are quite lovely and I get alot of compliments daily. My boyfriend is a (very cute) white guy and he also has a lovely set of locks. We both have jobs, smell nice and shower daily. We take good care of our hair and dont feel we are trying to "be black" or "rasta" or whatever uneducated people might want to say. It might surprise some people to find out that "dreads" were the common hair theme for most of northern europe and the islands for a VERY long time - the romans introduced the idea of regular and consistent combing. Many Norse figures would "dread" their hair while on vikings and would display the length of their locks with pride to show how long they have been asea.(look it up- Im a scandinavian history buff) This hair style is not exclusive to any chosen race. I find it amusing that so many people choose to judge me for them- especially african americans that have straightened their own hair or have extensions..... Luckily for me, most of my friends are of african persuasion and they are cool with my hair and give me mad props. So. as for your question- I think people should do whatever they wish- as long as they are comfortable.

Time to pick an ethnicity.


There are few people of any race or ethnicity who really look clean or healthy with dreads. Remember hair is dead once it comes out of the scalp. Carrying around a lot of dead matter, that cannot be really cleaned ( dust particles, body microbes, dead skin cells, bacteria and viruses) is a questionable practice regardless of who does it, or who has done it in the past.

It depends on the preson, usually white people don't look good with dreadlocks. I've only seen one person who looks good with dreadlocks. (and he can pull of anything).

Usually, though, they look kind of over-grungy and tacky, in my opinion.

hey i have no problem with white people having dreads just because you have dreads doesnt mean your hair is dirty or u dont shower.i have a little brother who has gorgeous long shiny dreads he's had the all his life and thank god i know how to design hair lol.but i have a white friend name tony who is a singer/musician and he has gorgeous blonde dreads.its cool most white people i see that has dreads are white musicians or weed head white guys lol. but all around tho i think its cool but you have to take reeeeeeeeeeally good care of them...

It look beautiful on them, especially when they are half breed, dreadlocks look good on every one who wears it if they take care of it

I like them on some people. If you do it make sure to keep them up. It's not a low maintenance hair style. Don't do it if you have a tender scalp. You'll hate life.

Dreadlocks suck. If you hate your hair that much than cut it off and donate it so some 7 year old with cancer can make use of it instead of advertising that you don't shower.

Hahahahahaha, i don't know why they wann do it but they do, sometimes when i go to the flea market in berkley i see them and i'm like "oookkkkk" and i disreguard it, but THEN i see horrible horrrible looking dreds and i feel some what disgusted.
