I'm a sophomore in college and I really want to get braces. I would prefer to get the invisalign so no one can tell, but at the same time, make my teeth straighter.

Since I'm in college, I really don't have the finances available to pay out right. My pa suggested some time of dental insurance but I'm not finding anything.

Anyone out there know of a good cheap way to get braces? Do you have a nice dental plan you can tell me about? I found one place that offered "low monthly payments" but there is no way I can afford 222$ a month!

To Emmaule,

I'm sorry I didn't fully state my situation. I've lived below poverty my whole life. My parents still do. The only reason I'm at college right now is because I worked my *** off getting scholarships to get out of this.

I'm sorry that I'm trying to find a way to correct my teeth, since my parents were never able to give that for me. Thanks to how I was raised, I only saw the dentist once in ten years. My parents just finished paying that off a little while ago.

Another thing, while attending college, I work two jobs. I'm working right now too during the summer. I will take on two additional ones in August working at a school.

My paychecks this summer aren't going to college. It is going to my parent's rent and putting food on our table.

Here is the dental plan I use. They help with braces, cleanings and everything in between.

Please forgive me for being harshly honest.

Do you know how many people below poverty level need emergency dental care? Children in low-income households go without necessary dental care every day.

Dentists have a limited amount of free care they can give away and stay in business - pay their employees, rent, equipment, supplies and continuing education. When they are lucky enough to be able to donate services, they focus on kids, elderly, or sometimes victims of domestic violence.

You are fortunate enough to be attending University, and you would like to have nice straight teeth. Good for you! Once you graduate, you will have an income above average and can spend part of your disposable income on non-essential dental work.

For now, if you really want orthodontic treatment, consider taking on a part-time job.

Again, I'm sorry if this advice sounds harsh, but it is a reality. If you want something for free, or at a greatly reduced cost, you must prove yourself deserving.

You can go to a dental school where they do it for half the price.
