Its not just the Police that need to fight the crimes, the public need to be more aware of what they are doing. For example personal belongings - don't leave stuff lying around, hide it away from prying eyes you know how the saying goes out of sight out of mind.
Have more security on your house. Try to make it as hard as possible for burgulars.
These are just some of the examples that would help crack down on crime. Most of the crimes are done by theft in one way or another its just you hear more about murders and attacks than you do of other such crimes like the above. It makes the news more thats all.

To reduce crime I agree with a lot of the poeple whose answeres were along the lines of stiffer penalties and arms bearing, etc...
If you want to prevent crime we need to return to the principles of our ancestors and founding fathers.
nameley judeo - christian teachings.and making sure our children are taught these things.
Other wise crime will only get worse.
throwing more cops and money at the problem will never solve the problem.

When everyone carries handguns, openly and lawfully, criminals will not be tempted to commit crimes. The crime rate ALWAYS goes up when people's right to keep and bear arms is infringed by all the gun control assholes like Handgun Control Inc.

Well., we start with public executions, reduce the appeals to one, legalize victimless crimes like drugs and prostitution(if you commit a crime on drugs thats no excuse) and concentrate on the real crimes and real criminals.

Give more funding to law enforcement agencies in better salaries and more coverage. Sound sentencing structures, no Baby Ruth judges who slap someone on the wrist and send them away. And making prisons more undesirable to be in. Where else can you go and get three hots and a cot and not have to work for it?

well seriously the suggestions of shooting the criminals and make more police doesn't sound good either.
giving lower incomers (or better said those who might commit crime) jobs of police and security man would kill two birds with one stone.
But it's all not so easy as it's spoken.

You probably won't like my answer, but here goes. You take every violent criminal (gang banger, murderer, rapist), line them up and shoot them. It is difficult enough to live this life without having to worry about violent criminals. But, since we live in the US, we would have to have a trial, appeals, delays, blah, blah, blah and they would outlive all of us.
