Catch 22 - I have panic disorder to the point of not being able to go a mile from the house. I've grown a resistance to my meds and they do not sedate me. I have an appointment this wednesday to have a new med program prescibed, but I can't make it to the doctor to get it. What do I do? Getting there will just have me be seen, but there is nothing that can take care of immediate attacks that occur en route or at the doctor. Just a slip of paper, "try this" and good luck making it back home, freak. My anxiety is high, my temper is bad and I'd almost prefer being shot than making this appointment.

I do prefer answers from people that understand or have experienced panic disorder as most that have no idea just say "be a man and take it." Not helpful in this situation.

1)Try going a different route than usual. 2)Get someone you trust to go with you, someone who will listen and help you talk yourself through the trip. 3)Try not refering to the appointment with Dr. John Doe and instead think of about going to visit with John. 4)My last trick is setting safe spots along the route that I take (where you can stop or go back to and talk to the trees or what ever) 5)Pray. Ask your God and Savior to take a walk with you...I promiss, you won't be alone

I used to have panic attacks and I took meds also. I couldn't be in crowds of people where there was loud noises. I couldn't drive anywhere that was more than an hour from my house. I think it's a hormonal imbalance. I kept a brown lunch bag with me at all times. When I felt one coming on I would take out the bag and cover my nose and mouth and breathed in deep until I felt better. After my hysterectomy the attacks went away. Good luck.

I've never been diagnosed with a panic disorder, but I have had panic-like episodes on occasion. I'd recommend having someone you trust take you to the doctor's office, to make sure you get there okay and to help calm you during an episode. Also, maybe having a nurse check on you once a week or so to see if you need any help or adjustments to your medication. Don't suffer alone, seek as much help as you need.

If you go to the doctors about that, they WILL send you to a therapist. i would recommend doing yoga, and venting to people more to relieve your stress. also when you feel yourself getting a panic attack lay down and try to sleep. i have anxiety and panic attacks all the time, from stress, and thats what i do.

Don't think too far ahead with it. Dont' think about the appt., think OK I have to go to the car or bus, then be proud of yourself. Then say OK I have to go three blocks. Little steps and try not to think of the big picture. If you start to panic stop and think what you have done already and now nothing happened, then astart again.

dont sleep the whole night and maybe you will be tired enough you dont care and then have a friend take you
or just try laying r sitting down and thinking of a color (white is good)
and just think of that color and let everything else go
i do this when i cant get to sleep when my body is still going from that day but u must only think of white try not to let ur mind wander
drink cold water and eat ur favorite food do wat makes you happy and plan to do something fun right after you get done with the doctor
so u have something to look forward to....

hey first of all you need to understand that you are not dying from that. But you need help from therapy to understand that.
I recommend to you to call your doctor to be prescribed a benzodiazepine which will help you to be calm while you arrive to the Doctor`s office.
good luck
