We have a 3 year old cat and are having a problem with him pooping on a new rug we bought. First the rug was folded up under the steps when he went on it. Then, when we placed the rug in place (just inside the front door), he did it again. We also think he pee'd on it.

He has a clean litter box that he normally uses. He is an indoor cat. The only other time we had a problem like this was in our old house. We kept his litter box next to the steps in the basement. We later found about 50+ piles of poop in a crawl space just under the steps...right next to where we keep his box. I scoop and wash his box regularly and we live in a clean home. How do I correct this behavior or why is he doing it?

My only guess is that he really doesn't like the rug :)

There must be a smell in the rug that the kitty likes lol Cats are funny about having a very clean litter box. You may have to make sure its cleaned or scooped daily. I would shampoo the new rug and maybe spray some "Stay Off" stuff. that way he doesnt smell where he went before and continue to use it. Even though you cleaned it, imsure he can still smell it where as humans cannot. GL!

I had a kitten that did something similar. She'd always go in the same (inappropriate) spot. It wasn't really a location where I wanted a litter box either. So what I did was put some litter directly on the floor where she liked to poop. She kept going in that spot no problem. Then I put the litter box on the spot (for a couple of weeks). Then I put the litter box where I wanted it. It worked.

I had a similar problem with my cat, we ended up having two litter boxes, he would only go in each once and then find somewhere else to go, so we had to constantly clean it out lol. Picky cat! Not sure why he is doing it maybe ask your vet for advice? I know it can be frustrating, hang in there!

First a question about cat pee; then a question about cat poo. feels like you both have a fetish with sanitary or your psychiatrists desires to advance your drugs dosage. Do your self a opt for, turn off the computing gadget, pass for a walk (once you're taking your drugs) and end dropping human beings's time including your imaginary questions. next time, stumble on the fashion to be smart and hide your profile so others won't be able to work out your previous psychotic questions!
