Sounds like the right opportunity to do both
Just when you see the recruiter get everything in writing
I was lied to and I know many others that were also
Having it on paper keeps it a contract -
Do not go on a verbal promise
Good Luck

You are about to select the best service going on the face of the earth. You will undoubtedly have the best training, mentoring, counseling and coaching there is to have. I was a Personnelman in the Navy for 20 years. I performed all the above duties in helping young sailors such as yourself. I retired in 1979 after 20 years. I enjoyed travel and seeing many parts of the world that I otherwise would never had the opportunity to do. I married after nearly two years of active duty. I have the same wife I had then. I have four children. I received my degree in Business administration at the Navy's time and expense. WHAT MORE CAN A YOUNG PERSON WANT. I just recently recruited a young man to join. He is now going to Aviation Electronics School. He still has a life ahead of him. "I SAY GO FOR IT AND DO NOT LOOK BACK" BEST WISHES. YOU CAN CALL ME IF YOU LIKE OR EMAIL ME. I was an A/C mechanic in the Marine Corps. Did travel, and got to stay on land for extended periods unlike the Navy. My cousin was an AC mech in the AF and he never left his home base. Luckily for him his home base was overseas so at least he got to see some of the world. But if you really want to move around often and stay places long enough to actually enjoy them, I'd say join the Marines.

Actually to Kiki...the Navy has more planes than the Air Force.
As an A/C mech...there are other sea duties that you will have the opportunity for, not just on a carrier.
To answer your questions...yes the Navy is a good opportunity to learn a valuable skill and to travel.
Good luck:)

As an aircraft mechanic in the Navy, you'll never not be stationed on a carrier, which can be a good life if you let it.

You can repair air craft with any branch of the service.. I'm a retired 1Sgt..My unit was in Schol Field Barricks Hawaii, I was in charge of the Aviation Maintenance Battalion on Hunter Army Air field... Grate location it was a tuff job but someone has to do it.. any way our support troops traveled all over the western hemisphere fixing air craft .. Kora, Japan, Okinawa, Panama. this was a very tight group, Famlies welcome.. if you are looking to travel don't get stuck on that boat ... some of my young solders went to work for major air line and on to government jobs when they left the Army.. Talk to your army recruiter... the Air Force is also very good for training .. the army some time trains with the AIR FORCE.. Good luck in what ever you decide..

I dont think its a good idea to ask such a life changing desicison and hope that these people will give you the right answer. Even if you're just using their answers to infulence your own. WHAT IF THEY ARE TOTALLY WRONG??? ONE PERSON COULD TOTALLY SCREW UP UR LIFE!I think you need to give this some serious thought on your OWN.... do a little reaserch?

I think it's a good idea as long as you know the possibility of being deployed into a global 'hotspot'.
Armed Forces is a great place to gain job experience.
