Can of worms!!!
An artist conveys, hopefully, a window on the world. Sometimes the window is broken. Sometimes it is clear and sometimes it is one dirty window.
What and how an artist behaves has a number of motivators. Money. A story to tell. A tale. Truth? Lies?
A REAL artist (I mean someone who lives only for the the ability to make their particular art) will tell you that an artist has to be true to ones self.
Personally I feel an artist must make something that pleases. But that is just my opinion. I do not feel an artist has to challenge society. If you make a point and it gets people talking, then you may have touched a button, but did not necessarily make art, once again in my opinion.
I as a viewer of art want it to please me when I experience it. THAT is the right word, EXPERIENCE the art. It should be an experience I would tell other people to try.

I think any artist should only do what they feel is right in their soul. Their art should be an expression from themselves. This can apply to painting, comedy, Not sure it can apply to acting..I think in that case they should attempt to LIVE the character they are playing. Not just ACT the character. That does have to come from a place deep down in the soul.

An artist is only responsible to themselves and their vision. However, a professional, mature artist will also know that there are basic social guidelines that will help them to best present their vision to the public, like honoring contracts, being dependable and mastering their craft.

An artist must captivate his audience with his skill for the amount of time allotted to him.
As a musician, performer and vocalist, I sing in order to display the beauty of composition as well as the distinction of my voice.
Success for an artist is simply achieved; when he can arrest the attention of his world, if only for a moment, in order to proclaim the truths most sacred to him, he has found success.

So many artists out there are using there are to receive or to get something. They forget their responsiblity as a true artist, which is to GIVE to their audience, without expecting something in return. For example, a true musician plays for his audience, and not for himself. He gives his all. He doesn't show off so he can receive glory, he just gives his soul and his music...
That's what i think the responsibility of an artist is.

Wow, I didn't know an artist had so much pressure to uphold a code of ethics. I think if you know you have a talent, then you have a responsibility to yourself to show it to the world and be the best you can be.

To share your truth with honesty. Don't try to hype it up, just share what you know. Present the story so that others have the information to do with what they will. Facts are sometimes the most powerful persuasion anyone needs.
