White wine for a red wine lover?

I'm typically a red wine drinker (sangiovese and merlot in particular). I have yet to develop a taste for white wine, but I wanted to start trying some out. Any white wine suggestions for a red wine lover?

You seem to prefer drier wines (higher alcohol content BTW). Dry wines seem to be on my preference radar as well. I like to have a sauvignon blanc or chablis blanc. Every once in awhile, I might get lucky and get a drier Chardonnay, but it's too rare to mess with.

If you like Sangiovese and Merlot, try either a Chardonnay or a Gewurztraminer. Gewurztraminer's have some spice to them so it makes them interesting and Chardonnay's tend to be the heaviest of the white wines (especially if they are oaked).

I'm not sure where you are located so I don't know what is available to you but my favourite Chardonnay's are from either California or Australia. As for the Gewurztraminer's, try Germany or Canada.

I would recommmend a sauvignon blanc or fume blanc if you enjoy a merlot, not as sweet as other varietals. It's a light earthy tasting wine with hints of citrus and herb flavors. In general the fruitiness aromas are more prominent in whites vs reds due to the lack of tanin, you will get that clean crisp taste of the fruit flavors. Washinton and Oregon wine tasting reviews:

don't start with the sweet wines like Rieslings they will shock you with their sweetness but Chardonnay is soooo dry that i would say a Pinto Grigio or some other similar wine. your best bet would be to go to a wine tasting and see what happens. if that is not possible try a GOOD wine store and tell them the flavors you like in your wine (oak, lemon, fruity, etc.) they can give you recommendations that will fit your palate if they are any good at their jobs.

I, too, am primarily a red wine drinker. When I look for a white, I usually turn to Pinot Grigio or Pinto Gris.

try a quincy it's positively delicious . . if you like something a bit heavier but don't like the typical chardonnay grape try a white chateauneuf de pape, the grape you're looking for is Marsanne

i too love the reds but one white i can never say no to is villa maria sauvignon blanc (new zealand marlborough bay) mmmmmmmmmmm south african cheninblanc also quite tasty tho fruity ps chardonnays are NEVER nice
