No NO NO NO I do not think pitbulls are nasty... If they ARE nasty, it is due to the owner.. I love all dogs and it is the owner(master) that makes a dog nasty.

I think pit bulls and pit bull types get a bad rep because they were bred as fighting dogs and so can be extremly dangerous. A pit bull can break your arm or leg easily with a single bite, they have incredibly strong jaws. A big part of the problem is the owners - it doesn't take much to turn one of these dogs into an uncontrolled dangerous animal, and although all dogs have the potential to cause damage, fighting breeds are more prone to it and need carefull handling, but at the same time dogs such as staffies make wonderful pets, IF they are treated right, with firm love - the same goes for rottwielers and dobermans. I've met rotties who were the biggest softies in the world, but because they had an owner who let them know their place in the peking order, but gave them plently of love and affection anyway. I think the recent outcry has been because of a few high profile cases recently, people should also be aware that pit bull terriers are illegal in the UK and in lots of other places as well because when they do turn nasty they can do so much damage very quickly. There is a lot in the headlines about kids being attacked by dogs at the moment, including the girl killed by a pit bull. People are blaming the dog, but in that case, and usually in other cases as well, it was the owners fault. That dog had been aggressive before to a point where the owner had been warned and he still felt it safe to have a small child near the dog!

Not at all. I think it has everything to do with how the owner treats them. Any dog can be nasty or conversely well tempered.

Large dogs that are nasty however can do more damage than smaller breeds. Most people don't report the small bites they get from miniature breeds. I heard somewhere that poodles give the most dog bite injuries.

Another problem is that those people who would have or want a nasty dog would tend to acquire dogs like pit bulls and train them that way.

When a dog viciously attacks for no reason the owner should be the one to be "Put Down"

Pit Bulls are NOT a nasty dog or a viscious dog. Unfortunately they have a strong look and fall victim to the nastiest and most viscious species, humans. Pit Bulls and Rottweilers are among the dog breeds LEAST likely to bite someone by nature. The large breed dog MOST likely to bite is the Dalmation. Pit's have a bad reputation because they are often the victims of people who beat them and train them to be viscious, sometimes for dog fighting. And when a Pit does give in and bite, its all over the news. When was the last time they showed a story about a poodle mauling a child? never seen one? That doesn't mean it doesn't happen. It does. The news just doesn't consider a poodle mauling to be a high ratings story.

Pits are loving and affectionate gentle animals when owned by decent loving families. They are beautiful and majestic animals!

No I don't think bitpulls are nasty. If they are trained correctly then they are beautiful pets. I have two Staffordshire Bull Terriers and I only bought them because they are good with children and people. Everyone loves them that meets them (they don't know what they are or haven't been influenced by the media). I think they are getting a bum rap with Bill 132.
A lot of people don't realize that pitbulls are no. 8 on the bite list. A lot of vet assistants and groomers would rather take care of a pitbull than any dog from your toy breeds!

I think the nasty ones are the people who mistreat them. Pit Bulls can be the most loving, devoted, intelligent pets! Half the Pit Bulls you hear about attacking people aren't even Pits at all and are identified by people who don't know anything at all about dog breeds. The ones that do attack have somehow been abused or have been bred and raised to fight. A well-bred Pit is nothing like the stereotype! In fact exactly the opposite of what everyone thinks...

You're correct. It's the owners who determine the dog's tempriment. I've seen English Bull Terriors as gentle as butterflies, and Lasa Opsu's mean as Pitt Bulls. It's up to the owner ... but the dog unfortunately, always pays for it's agression.

Pit Bulls have a bad rep. cause they have prey drive. Meaning....if they see something move or run they tend on going after it. That's not their fault!!! They were bred like that. But as for aggressive pits you're totally right. ITS PEOPLE WHO DO THAT!!! If you properly train your pet and give them love but also remember they are dogs...they'll be fine. It's your friends that have the problem.. They're missin out on a lotta love!!

I have seen nasty and nice in pitbulls, I am a firm believer that if you show them love they are wonderful pets if you teach them to be mean and teach them tofight then they are not nice, it is all in the training, every dog has the ability to be a wonderful loving pet.
