I believe that God was the motivating force behind evolution. As we mature, we find better words to explain this fact. I don't believe evolution contradicts the bible, as a matter of fact, I think it upholds it. We are given what we can understand as to Who God is as we mature as a race. Young race, simple answers. If you notice, the only constant in the universe is change.... the air is constantly moving, the sun moves, the earth rotates, trees grows and so do animals and us humans.
Everything is moving and many are evolving. The very young evolve to be youths and the young evolve to be old. Life is movement and evolution. It is indeed the plan of the LORD MOST HIGH to make things move and evolve towards perfection.
Survival of the fittest in itself is an observation of the laws of perfection that are based on evolution. However, where Darwin misses out is in the stability of the movement. A human baby is evolving to grow to be a human being, but there is no fear at any point that the baby may grow up to be a monkey or a kangaroo.
Similarly the earth is moving and changing its direction constantly with regard to the sun, but there is no immediate expectation that it will jump into the orbit of mars.
The evolution of the Lord is phenomenol and perfect. It is amazing so many planets, earth, trees and animals are moving in perfect rythm in defined paths towards perfection.
So you are correct. We have discovered the facts embedded in the nature of matter and call ourselves scientists... but only if we stopped and think of the CREATOR who not only embedded these beautiful laws in the nature of things, but also gave us the ability to analyze and appreciate them. The rocks and the trees shall never fathom the depth of beauty of the Creation of the GRAND CREATOR as we do! The heart sings his praise and the mind marvels at what He has made!

Look up entropy. I believe God is the driving force behind entropy - because we live in fallen world and everything is falling apart. And some day Jesus will come back and put things back together again.
Evolution teaches the opposite effect. That everything was in pieces and it's now coming together, that things are getting better. This would describe a world that increasingly doesn't need God.
Friends and I were talking about this the other night. Just thought I'd give you something to think about.
And to answer your question. No. Man's want to live without God is the driving force behind evolution.

Genetic variation and mutations along with environmental conditions guided evolution. God likes viruses and mosquitoes cause they can adapt to environmental changes quickly. (such as DDT and antibiotics). Unless god likes to make things hard to test are ability to survive on earth then he is pretty ruthless. So 4.5 billion years or 6000 years of Earths history. The bible can uphold the holocaust if you wanted it to. The only motivation of evolution is to mate. To reproduce offspring, eat and drive a car.
