I know what you mean and it remains a sad time in our history that the south lost the war. It robbed me of my hopes to run a productive plantation and watch my slaves 'plow those fields, hoe them seeds', and I would've treated them better than our government in the present day treats'em. We need a president that will bring back those days, to revise the grand old custom of slavery, but with just what we got already, I don't mean bring any more slaves over here, because that would be morally wrong I think. You have my heart.

Where do people like you come up with crap like this?
For the most part they were treated very poorly, were beaten often as examples to other slaves, had their daughters taken away from them often as sex mistresses...
Etc.
The only circumstances under which the slave owners would draw the line was to cripple their slaves when beating them. So they learned how to punish and torture in other ways because a crippled slave was of no use to the owner working the fields or anywhere else.

Is this a question? Most slaves were abused by definition in the American Institution of Slavery. The history of Slavery in general was a history in wich the conquered were given Lesser rights and frequently abused. A few systems of Slavery in history prevented serious abuses (such as systems that allowed for short periods of servitude that could be extended as a form of debt payments) although even these were frequently abused.
