Someone I know is always making these gulping noises in their throat. They only started this a while back but now do it all the time- about every 3 seconds while eating. It's getting to be really annoying, but they can't seem to help it. I don't want to be mean but it realllllly gets on my nerves as I am always conscious of the sound when we are talking or eating together. I don't know why they do this or how to get them to stop! Please give me some advice...

OMG...I had a friend that did something like that too. It wasn't really a gulping sound, more like a kinda oink sound like he was trying to scratch the back of his throat. He did it non-stop! It does get annoying, and you should just tell him. He may not even be aware that he is doing it!

Simple...everytime they make that sound...stand up, walk over to them and punch them in the throat. Then say, "Everytime you make that annoying sound with your throat I am going to punch you in the throat!" They should stop doing it then. Hope this helps...worked with me with a dude who would always fart when i talked to him...his butt was all black and blue. But he stopped after a couple days.

Just by telling him and for all you know it could even be a medical problem and then he would consult a doctor. But it this fails to stop just have as little contact as possible with him and then they may improve their manners. Otherwise bring earplugs and then they may get the message.

Just say'What's that noise?' so they're aware of it then joke it off. Have a laugh about it then they might feel more concious of it and stop doing it hopefully.
Hope this helps x

Oooh, tough one...Good friend, you could just ask her/him if they are aware they have a new habit. Casual friend, I suggest spending less time dining with them. Good luck!

Tell him or her. "Habits" can be broken.
If it is really something he or she can not control, tell him/her to get help.
