I had three canaries. One of them died two weeks ago. We thought it was because her water got tilted (her cage hangs on the ceiling). But then the other canarie died a day ago. I checked, she had plenty of food and water. I don't know what to do because they appear perfectly normal and then die. What could be the possible cause?

without being around the birds I cant be sure but depending on where you live and the temperature---I would suggest spraying them down until th ey are fairly damp and keep away from direct sun or a fan or AC until they dry. Many places the temp is high and birds can have heatstroke verrrry easily. Try cooling them down each day by spraying-they will object at first but then later will welcome it-also put a dish of water in the cage that they can get in to and "bathe" as they wish-usually if nothing shows as being wrong--it can very easily be the temperature good luck!

This may sound stupid, but could there be a gas leak or something toxic in the enviroment to the canaries?

See this: Health: Canaries are extremely sensitive to trace gases and other such toxins, so be careful to not use air fresheners, rug deodorizers, perfumes, and other such volatiles in their presence. For this reason, the kitchen is not a good place to keep them; fumes or smoke from cooking foods could make them ill. Every bird-owning household should beware of Teflon cookware as this emits gases that are highly toxic to birds if overheated. Moulting should occur once a year, just after midsummer. A moult at any other time of the year is usually caused by the presence of a (warm or cold) draft from which the bird has no shelter. It can also be associated with shock or illness. A pet canary will usually live an average of 10 years or so, given good care.

It may actually be the water supply because town water has a high chlorine level that birds like canaries are sensitive to.

The most common "Mysterious Death" for canaries is the use of Teflon pans in cooking. Teflon releases a gas that is not toxic to humans but is Poison to all birds.

I would take it to the vet because it might have something serious. I had a parakeet that was very sick and i didnt even know it because birds hide their illnesses very well. They do this because in the wild, predators would go for the weak and sick birds. So go to the vet ASAP!!!!Best wishes!!
