I had a first date on Friday.

We met at a popular diner and immediately had good rapport. We joined her friends and went dancing afterwards.

After closing time, I asked if she wanted go to a coffeehouse.

She politely said she was exhausted after a hard week and all of the partying we had done that night-she was calling it a night. This was fine with me, it was a great first meeting. I asked her where her car was which turned out to be a completely different direction from mine. This felt like a proper punctuation to the night. I thanked everyone for a great night, I gave her a hug and a kiss and went on my way.

Here's my question-she was with her friends who were walking her to her car. I felt this was a good punctuation to the night. Was I wrong-did I still need to walk with this group and drop her off to her car and walk all the way back to mine? Was this a faux pas or just car retrieval logic?

Your choice seems entirely logical, and I wouldn't worry about it. If the date went well otherwise, it probably won't matter to her anyway. Life isn't like Seinfeld episodes, fortunately.

Considering that the two of you have already said goodnight, and she had other friends to walk her to her car, I do not see how it could be a faux pas. If you were having this discussion while walking to her car, than I would have continued on to the car and said goodnight there.
