I prefer the stove top method. Use a nonstick fry pan and warm them on medium til the smell in the kitchen makes your stomach start talking. Really scientific, aren't I? lol This will work for whole, sliced or quartered almonds. Move them around a lot while they are toasting so you don't get any burn marks on them.

I assume you're talking about slivered almonds. Just put them on a cookie sheet, nothing on them, and toast in the oven until slightly golden

I don't think you have to add anything, I've toasted almonds just on a tray in my toaster oven for a few minutes and they come out fine.

when i was in morocco my host showed me a shortcut to toasting raw almonds. She'd blanch them in boiling water for a few minutes then drain them and place them on some paper towels and then microwave them (still in the paper towel) for 3-5 mins

On a cookie sheet. Just don't leave them in forever. Then they get very hard.
