Studies have proven that changing sleep schedules can cause serious problems. It creates confusion disrupts your biorhythms, and makes sleeping difficult. Lack of sleep can cause several physical problems as the body does not have a proper chance to heal or recharge.
These studies have proven that it is best to stay on one sleeping schedule.

i feel for you. that's because i'm a registered nurse and i, too, used to work graveyard (from 6 30 pm to 7pm 3 days a week). i think i had it worse cause i had those owful in between days where i wouldn't work (4 days off), whewre i didn't know if i should sleep during the day, or not sleep and sleep at night. I was like a zombie. let's put it this way. it's pretty bad for your system. let's face it, our bodies are not made to sleep during the day, but at ngiht. sure, we may stay up a little later or maybe even for the whole night on new years or special occasions, but not as a lifestyle. if you do it for a year or two, it's no biggie, however, longterm it's not good. now i switched to days (cause i hated nights) and i can see the people working at night at change of shift, and they look awfly dead tired. i feel so bad for them. even though we're more busy during the day (i work on a med surg floor which tends to get very busy), i'ds still rather work days. hope this helps.

It's not bad to sleep in the day, it's fine. Your body is used to your time schedule and that is why you feel rested during the work week but tired on the weekend. Your body needs about two or three days to get used to a time change, so by changing your sleeping times on the weekends, you are not giving your body enough time to get used to the change.
Graveyard shift sucks for that reason.

Hey, there's nothing like night sleep, even if you sleep all day. But since you work the night shift, you HAVE to sleep during the day. So for people like you, its ok, not bad at all. Now if you're sleeping all day, then you may want to try sleeping a few hours, and talk to your doctor about ways to boost your energy level after you wake up so you won't have to sleep all day.

I worked graves for three years. I kept my same schedule for my days off. I never had any ill effects to my health.
