She should have stood up and left. Then she should have called the Diocese Office and reported him for violating the silence of confession. And then she should find another church.

Don't believe your friend. I am a catholic myself, so i know a thing or two about it. Catholic Priests are sworn to seceracy that they are told in the confessional. For Example that a person could confess to a murder and the priest could not and will not turn him in or give any information to the police.
A very long time ago, say 1600's, catholics went to confession in frount of the congregation. The person did this to confess to the congregation to what they have done. Your friend may have been telling a story from her ancestors.
Anyway, prienst are sworn to seceracy, so it may not have been at the catholic church.

She did the right thing. It was the priest's fault and his blame. She went into confession and under the rules of the contract of confession, you are not allowed to break oath of whatever is said between you and the priest. The priest is supposed to let this be between you and God and tell you that you are forgiven. If this woman was in confession she felt guilty and wanted to be forgiven. It didn't help matters the priest ran his mouth to the next person he could find. And he called her a prostitute? Shame on him! I would think the church had a little more consideration to 21st century life than that. Tell the woman she shouldn't feel guilty. And she should tell what that priest did to the higher powers of the church. Because you are not allowed to run your mouth about confessions. NOT ALLOWED! I would be really mad if a priest at my church had the nerve to do that to me. I don't know what punishment the church would have in mind for this priest but he deserves to be punished. Confessions are between you, the priest, and God. You're supposed to feel safe at confession. She was wronged.

Either find another church with a more compassionate priest or find another religion with a more compassionate world view. First of all this woman is not a prostitute as far as I know. At best she could be called promiscuous, that is if she actually slept with all thess men, which we do not know and cannot assume. Even by Christian standards this preist is being Judgmental. Remember even Christ spent time with thieves as well as prostitutes. This priest thinks he is better than her. I personally believe one of the greatest sins we need to over come is pride. I hope this man can look in the mirror and really see things for the way they are. In the mean time I hope this woman can find a spiritual world view and community that will be supportive before she gets sick of it all and renounces all spirituality put together. That would be a same as there are many nuanced and functional perspectives out there.

First this is obviously a lie.
All priests know that breaking the seal of the confessional like that will get you defrocked instantly. Rome enforces that rule to a T.
To the poster above....rites for public confession is early Church. There was private confession at that time as well. It has been private confession only for well over a millinia.

That is one mean priest. Did he not read the story about casting the first stone? If this is a true story, he should be stripped of his title and job. She did the honorable thing by holding her tongue in a very ladylike way. She may have been ashamed, and she may have good reason to be ashamed, but anyone in that congregation with knowledge of Jesus Christ's life would know that this priest is not following His example.

I would call the bishop and report that the priest has violated the seal of the confessional. That's a big no no for priests, they are not allowed to talk to anyone about what they hear in confession, unless they fear that someone will be seriously harmed if they don't, which is obviously not the case here. Call your bishop.

If this is true, then the priest may have broken the seal of the confessional. This grave sin would excommunicate him from the Church.
This matter should be immediately be reported to the bishop of the diocese so that he can take immediate action in this serious matter.
With love and prayers in Christ.

doubtful that this happened, but if it did, she needn't have done anything, as having 4 or however many boyfriends does not constitute one's involvement in prostitution. even if she were a prostitute, let's say for the sake of discussion, if she had chosen to become one of free will, she is no less than anyone else, and should not feel ashamed. if she were one, and she had become one against her will, this should say volumes about those either directly or indirectly involved in causing this situation, as well as society at large.
as for the select altar boys whom the priest was dinging, they should have called him a hypocrite, and hung him from his left testicle.

There is ignorance and evil everywhere. My son was molested by a priest and as I told the Bishop, It's a good thing that my faith is not dependent on the "men of the cloth.
