Since you are asking this question, then it is not a mutual love in the first-sight situation. Also, doesn't look you are the type who would put a physical show and wait until being approached by someone. If that is the case then here is one other alternative:
Open to him and let him know that he can be helpful to you (without asking directly or looking needy and dependent). If he offers the help, then probably he is also interested in you. Then be receptive to his help, and reward him with things that he likes, not too much though, keep something for later.
The rewarding part is actually tricky. That is where the compatibility comes in. It means that you should try to know him enough to know what he enjoys and you are willing to provide that for him. The best rewards are the ones that you enjoy too. The worst ones are the ones that you are not enjoying (or even hate) and only doing for the sake of keeping him. Usually that is where the problem starts, since at some point you get tired of doing things for him that you wouldn't enjoy.
Of course this is just the beginning. At some point you will change roles... and the game continues.
One other alternative is to start by helping him, and the rest is the same as above...
At some point you may get to where you would like to be together just for the sake of being together and not because you fulfill each other's needs. Or you could say you will fulfill each other in a much deeper way. And that is a real relationship.
