In the US, you can get one free REPORT from each of the major agencies each year at the site below. The score will cost you between $7 and $10, but you can order it when you order your report through this site. This is the only totally free, no-strings-attached site. Others will ask you to sign up for their credit watch program, but you don't need it if you just do this:

Order just one agency's report at a time, every four months. For example,
July - Experian
Novemeber - TransUnion
March - Equifax

You can get a free credit report, but there is no way possible to get the score for free. Many places lead you to belive it's free, but the report is. Just not the score

Todays paper has a notice that www.annualcreditreport.com
or (877) 322-8228 will provide 1 free credit report per year.
i've never used them but might be worth a visit.

www.theannualfreecreditreport.com not fico but free report from all three bureaus once a year.
