You people who support the military and the people "IN" the military can't even beat a bunch of rag tag insurgents in Iraq. What makes you think you can run into N. Korea and whip them? The N. Korea military will kick the living crap out of the USa military. Look what they did to the USA back in 1950 to 1953.

You obviously have no knowledge of history and are extremely ignorant of what is going on in Iraq. Grow up.

Regarding the 1959-1953 Korean war...General Douglas MacArthur almost annihalated the North Korean Army. The Chinese then joined the war on the NoKor side because they thought that they would be next. MacArthur wanted to nuke the Chinese but was restrained by President Truman. the Allied/UN forces eventually stopped the Chinese (not the North Koreans) at the current dividing line between North and South Korea. As regards Iraq...the insurgents do not fight by the same rules...its called guerrila warfare fool. The North Koreans being rigid military thinkers (due to Soviet-era tactics) would fight the US mono-e-mano at a field battle during which the Americans' 21st century planes, tanks and troops would proceed to slaughter the 1960s-era tanks and troops of the NoKor. And unlike the Iraqis who fight for a variety of causes (from genuine nationalism to stupidity to despair to islamic rule), I seriously doubt that anyone in North Korea other than Kim Jong ill and his close buddies would be motivated to fight (The North korean people are starving to death to feed their leaders and their leaders' whores).

The fact that you have all tried to measure North Korea's military strength based on a campaign that erupted 50 years ago is the questionable issue. Erudite's comment wasn't completely unreasonable. Just recently, North Korea announced its continuation of nuclear arms production. That is not to say that Kim Jung Il had not issued the production of weapons any time in the past years. But advantage in warfare is hardly measured based on military provisions. Political ties are the cloaked daggers in warfare. As was stated earlier, China was a crucial player in the northern Pyong Yang region. American and South Korean forces were rapidly driven to the parallel due to Chinese interference. Having been a key material supplier for North Korea in the following years, there is no guarantee that China will stand by while a tenacious peninsula regime wields destructive weaponry. To this day, China's political ties have interwoven with economic trade opportunities in the U.S. It is no surprise that such a large nation has managed to found a stable economic pillar. Once China has finalized its monetary holdings on global trade there will be no reason for a new super power to support the U.S. It would be wise for China to side against its rival while avoiding the wrath of its neighboring North Koreans.

To further add... General MacArthur's success greatly depended on his covert landing in Pusan... Had he failed to find his foothold, he would have been pressured in the southern front and most likely driven to the edge of the peninsula. The Pusan objective, of course, required the consent of South Korean intelligence (as Pusan is a South Korean city). If Erudite is referring to an invasion of North Korea, Pusan will not play its part as a strategic foothold. Nor will South Korea agree to surrender more of its congressional power to the imperialistic cause of the superpower United States.

you are as ignorant about history as you are about current events. What happened in 1950-53 was that the U.S. Armed forces kicked the **** out of the north koreans and leveled everything right up to the chinese border. There wasn't a two story building standing in all of north korea. Now quit being so frigging ignorant because I'm getting tired of responding to your bullshit. Why don't you just move.. Just get the hell out. You have no respect for this country or it's military..you may as well be working for the enemy and it wouldn't surprise me to learn you were. You are a coward and a traitor and you don't have the decency to be concerned about the families of those killed fighting this war or you wouldn't post the venomous comments you do....so just move.

Stupid.

The N. Koreans have let their army waste away (most of their ammunition is well past its 'use by' date) and all they have left are some rather unreliable missiles that would be mere target practice for the Navy's and Army's tactical antimissile systems.

The insurgents in Iraq have not been able to improve their strategic situation - nor have they been able to achieve any of their political goals. The number of US troops in Iraq is steadily decreasing as Iraqi army and police units take over areas formerly patrolled by Americans.

You really need to learn how to look at operational situations. Getting your news from a reporter who does nothing but sit in the Green Zone and narrate stories written in New York is not going to give you an accurate idea of what is going on.

Dude, chill out.

The vast majority of us do NOT think we can whip anyone. We didn't even want the military to go to Iraq.

But guess what?

The politicians in Washington D.C. OWNS every single person in the military. Every man, every woman. Those soldiers must do as they are told, or go to jail. And hello? Convicts can't really get good jobs to support themselves and a family. If Congress actually declares war, then refusing to fight means execution. Either way, that soldier risks death.

The vast majority of us sympathise with the low-level soldiers who have ABSOLUTELY NO CHOICE about where they go and what they do. We only want them to come home.

You don't approve of the military action the US is involved in? Then attack the real culprits...the CIVILIAN politicians who are allowed to order the military around willy-nilly.

well it would sort of depend on how the US went about it. if it wanted, n. korea could be smashed to pieces in no time at all, of course this might bring alot of other countries into it and cause a problem...then again if it showed restraint, it would probably go similar to iraq, the initial attack would be a cake-walk and then it would get long and drawn out...though i suspect the causalities would be less...
