well, im an athiest, but what i dont understand is why the church are attacing this book so ferociously. yes, the author claims its true, personaklly im mixed, but why so savage on getting it banned?
okay for a start, for the book to work, jesus needs to have existed, but as a mortal man, not gods son.... this does seem more passable than an supreme being (if one even exists)
and for those who have actually read / seen it, darrne brown is not trying to crush christianity. hes just pointing out the truth
whis is fact does work. its been known that the bible has been severly edited over the years by the catholic church (even if they deny it...)
what im saying is, why deny your past church? and why so defensive? it just seems odd....

Pope Leo X Famously said...."It has served us well this myth of Christ".....look into that and you might find your answers. I think that if the church didn't have anything to worry about ...then they wouldnt make such a big deal.

The thing that gets me is that in the beginning of the book, Dan Brown claims that "All secret societies, rituals, places..." are real when in fact they are not. The Priory of Scion was "created" in the 1950's by a guy who wanted to be royalty so he planted documents in a library that said that he was part of the Merovgian line. He later came out and told that it was all a hoax. Dan Brown obviously did not research enough or he would have learned this. People though are still believing that the entire story could possibly be true. And the Bible hasn't been edited..people just want to believe it has been so they won't feel as guilty when they do something wrong.

Dan Brown claims the book is true, but his research was not very good. It's fiction pure and simple.
I think what the church is upset about is that people believe whatever Hollywood puts out. Mel Gibson had that Jesus movie a year or so back that the church just loved because it had people converting to Christianity in the movie theaters. The Da Vinci Code, wildly inaccurate though it may be, puts a lot of ideas out that go against the teachings of the church.
They are worried that some of their brainwashed automotons might discover free thought as a result of the film. It's kind of funny when you think about it.
They preach a doctrine of lies, and are upset about a fictional movie. You have to love the irony in that.

OK, fair enough as it goes, but as another atheist, I have to say that Dan Brown wrote a load of bollocks. That the bible was editied in a smoke-filled room several hundred years after Jesus was alive is clearly true. Christians don't seem to deny that, they just assume that the editors got the business of separating the word of God out from the word of, er, someone else, right. Myself, I don't trust smoke-filled rooms. But if there is no God then it doesn't matter what qualifies as God's word and what doesn't!
But that's no reason to give Mr Brown more respect than he deserves. He's a pot-boiler money maker, he spotted a plan to make good cash and capitalised on it extremely well. He does not, unless he is mad, believe a single word of the things he asserts to be true. All that stuff about the Priory of Sion is complete crap, for example, invented by a couple of French fraudsters, both of whom are still alive as far as I remember. Descendents of Mary Magdelene my @rse.
Pity the guides at Rosslyn Chapel. Rumour has it they are losing the will to live.

Well the church know soon it will be at an end, its days are numbered as soon the earth will be made totally a service to others planet...
The Da Vinci thing well some truth in it may be... yes Jesus was married to Mary and had 5 or 6 children living in community with his disciples
A lot of old records are no appearing ...even though Kriste warriors in the early days tried to burn all the true records.

The church, for centuries always strongly defend what they think they know. And, to me, it is a bit odd that they should just crack down on this book so much the way they have.
You know what I think...
I think that if there was some truth in what Dan Brown is saying, well, there would be bloodlines up to today and religious believers of all types and even atheists would want to know the big questions like: can he/she perform miracles? will they resurrect at death etc...
And then the churches would be scared that if the end of the bloodline was tracked down and they couldn't do these things...well, that destroys the bible and everything that stemmed from it.

The reason the church is so defensive is that it is not a true story, but many people who don't know the truth will take it as truth. Actually, the whole da vinci code thing has been good because it brings those people who don't know the truth out so that those of us who do know the truth can pass it on to them.

It's funny, they're treating this movie/book the same way they treated "Last Temptation", it's almost they are all in a panic over it with an opposing point of view. They want it banned, then when they realize that isn't going to happen, they quickly organize "bible studies" around the movie so everyone can "discuss" it. Sounds more like they're telling everyone what to think about it, fearing some of the flock might actually have an original thought of their own, quit attending church, taking their dollars with them...
More mind control. I ain't buyin'!

The church's that are deffensive are the ones in my eyes that are nervous about the stability of there own religion. My church is not. The catholic church in Albany New York grouped togerther with the Universalists around that county against the book/movie. A great example of the above definition. It's all to the extent of how much you believe either side.

Actually, the author of the Da Vinci Code has said straight out that this book is fiction, that nothing in it is real. So personally I do not understand why the Catholic church is so very defensive about the book and it's content when it is not real.

It is like the hassles that the movies "The Ten Commandments" and "Jesus Christ Superstar" got when they came out, later on those same movies they hollered about have become "Christian Movies", seems some people just like to holler about everything so they can attract attention to themselves and feel important. Wait a few years, those books will be "required reading" as soon as they can figure out a way to make money from the ideas expounded in the book.
